Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

Good morning, everyone. One day after that 6 day headache subsided I started again two weeks early. It is so heavy I was bleeding in the bathroom floor and running down my legs this morning. When I had my period last time it was nearly nothing and only one day. I feel like I am absolutely falling apart. I guess maybe this explaned the headache.

Oh, the perimeno period vengeance! I swear my periods are so schitzo. Some times, it's late, sometimes early, sometimes phantom. (All the symptoms without the blood) Then there's the scant period, the normal one one, the one that comes for two days, shuts off for two more, then faucet's back on. THEN, the I can't get to the toilet to the tub without mopping up the blood bath I leave behind ! WTF? I'm always checking the toilet seat, the floor....ucky!

Ladies, please be careful during the perimenopausal phase because you can become severely anemic without knowing it. It is even possible to pass out because of the loss of blood and need a blood transfusion, so don't put off going to the doctor. You don't want to pass out driving the car which can actually happen. I used progesterone cream in the beginning of perimeno and that helped a little but when the bleeding became really heavy because of polyps that I did not know about the doctor had to prescribe Provera to try to stop the bleeding. Do not allow yourself to continue bleeding for weeks because it is very hazardous to your over all health, your doctor can give you Provera to control it. Also, you might need to have a sonogram to see if there are any abnormal things going on that is making your periods so heavy. I had to have a uteral ablation to stop the bleeding and it was the best thing that I ever did for my health. You need to put yourself first during this difficult time so don't wait to tell your doctor exactly what is going on.

I went from mid-April to late August without a period and then end of August had a light one and now my period is heavy and this is my 5th day. I have on-and-off pain where my ovaries are also. Usually it is only heavy the first 2 days. I guess I should call the doctor because I had surgery 2 years ago to remove some fibroids and cysts. I feel like I am too old for this, just turned 53.

Definitely go to see the doctor. At different times, I have had three different problems which caused the heavy bleeding problem, low thyroid, fibroids and a polyp. I let myself get very anemic each time before going to the doctor. I recommend going as soon as possible to avoid this.
