Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

Hi all, hope everyone is coping as well as they can. I know sometimes its almost unbearable. Im here because prayer is my sustaining power. Anyway, at times I feel like Im going to lose my mind. I read that the fluctuating hormones also affect the brain ( I hate when that feeling comes over me). It eventually goes away but when it is present then the negative thinking kicks in. I really have to try to refocus which there are days when this is so hard to do. Does anyone else go through that? Is it at any specific times of the month for you? I also forget at times I get so scared that it is not funny (some of the symptoms although I've had them for two years still at times scare the pants off me). I know that this will pass with God's help but it is not an easy stage of life for those of us who have these horribbbbbbbble symptoms. Thanks, for reading and posting. Jammy144

Hi Jammy, I couldnt believe the way I began to feel, it was like a switch flicked on and life was so different. Have you tried any natural hormone tablets, reducing coffee etc..... Nothing was helping me till I took HRT but I feel weak giving in just to get relief from menopause. Now all of a sudden I am feeling much better about myself, still no memory and brain fog happening , it makes me feel so vague at times. But at least I don't hate myself anymore.

Hi Jammy, I also felt like one day I woke up and I was a completely different person, It felt like someone turned on the adrenaline switch only I can't turn it off. It's very confusing, because I feel like this can't possible be just menopause? I feel like really horrible most days, the anxiety is really bad. I really want to say that I hope you feel better, I really did not want to put it on a downer, but that is how i feel. I am also a christian, but most days feel very disconnected. from God, but know he love us all! I pray that all of us will feel better soon. I know we can do this. So good thoughts to you and hope you feel better each and every day!

Hi Jammy, I too am struggling to cope, and I agree with everyone that it was like a switch was turned on overnight and life hasn't been the same since. I never knew that it affected the mind the way it does. I really thought that I was going crazy or something until I started doing research and realized that others feel the same exact way. I also have negative thoughts and like OMG50 experienced definitely dislike myself. I hope and pray we all get over this quickly.

I too am a person of faith and prayer is part of my coping strategy. It is a little scary how menopause affects us psychologically. Make sure you are taking menopause vitamins. I am taking the GNC Menopause vita pak and it has made a big difference in that sense of dreadfulness that kept sweeping over me including self-loathing. I have taken these vitamin paks for two days and both days I have been much better in my mind. Still having hot flashes but they are a bit better. My next line of defense is going to be the hormonal cream.a

Hi what vitamins should you take? I take vitamin D, can you recommend what other vitamins would be good for me to take please, much appreciated.

Jammy144, we are living parallel lives! I know what you mean. A feeling washes over you and the thoughts begin...Like you, I am a Christian and am praying my way through this. I often feel like I'm fighting a physical, mental, emotional and yes, spiritual battle at times and it is exhausting! My final menopausal symptoms: nervousness, anxiety, night sweats, flushing and insomnia hit me like a freight train. It's a lot to deal with sometimes. From everything I've read, hormonal imbalances and shifts do affect the brain, so we can be rest assured that while it feels like we are losing it, we are not. I just have to keep repeating the verse from 1 Tim. 1:7...'For God has not given us (me) a spirit of fear, but of love, power and a SOUND MIND.' I am also praying for all of us trying to make our way through this passage and that we come out on the other side quickly. One of my favorite verses is ...'and it came to pass.' Hang in there Jammy144. I will pray for you!

I can SO relate to the lightswitch thing. I've always been a relatively upbeat person, but this hormone craziness is messing with me big-time. I get so anxious and depressed, and sometimes I can't stand myself or anyone else, which is SO not me. I feel like an alien has invaded my body! There's the me I knew from before, and the new layer on that. It's particularly frustrating because my life has come to a beautiful place outside of the hormones----great marriage, career I love. The hormones are so agonizing, though, that it puts a cloud over all the good stuff going on.
