Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.
I went into menopause at 36:-( It was so quick and immediate.....I was so unprepared. At the time, I really wanted to go to a Naturopathic doctor....but didn't know of any personally and didn't have any friends that were going to see one at the time. I also had hot flushes every hour at night and pretty much through the day. It was horrific. I couldn't sleep at night. Anxiety. Awful moods and irritations. Anyway, at my wits end, I went to my doctor who sent me to a Reproductive Endocrinologist. He did the blood tests and told me I was in Menopause. He put me on a birth control pill that contained Estrogen and Progesterone in balance. I sobbed in his office at the thought of being on the pill for so many years. I hate taking medicine.....I would just as soon take a nap or drink more water for a headache than take ibuprofen or whatever. I hated every minute of taking the pill. Half way through 39....I was connected with a Naturopath. In May of this year, I quit taking the pill. Of course hot flashes came back with a vengeance. The first thing she had me do was a 30 day cleanse. Also she had me taking some supplements that helped get me "going regular" (elimination), also some supplements that were for hormone balance. I have gotten rid of sugar and white flour and have pretty much taken on a raw sort of diet. Also I have some oils I use for hormone support. Its a very long road. I have no idea how long the hot flashes will continue? They have gotten better, for sure. At this point I usually have a hot flash around 12:30am and then not again until around 5am. I will also have hot flashes late afternoon into the evening. I am still not sleeping.....thinking of taking Melatonin. Moods are still bad and still have anxiety. But, hoping for some relief as I continue the wellness journey. The idea behind doing the cleanse first, is that once you flush all the toxins and get rid of the bad stuff.....your body is in a better place to balance and heal itself. Does anyone have any experience with how long the hot flashes will continue? As in how many years from the onset of menopause? Is there any approximation?
