Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

I was diagnosed in December with Menopause and at the time found out I had no hormones, so my GYN put me on HRT (months+ in)...a minivelle estrogen dot patch that I cut in half because it causes nausea. I take progesterone at night. I'm also battling depression and anxiety and starting my 2nd week taking Effexor.

I keep praying...anybody have any words of encouragement. Menopause is not for the faint of heart. It's tough because some days I feel ok and other days are tough!

Sounds very familiar. I couldn't take the estrogen and the progesterone did help me sleep. But not with any of the other symptoms so I stopped both. They tried me on Paxil, and Zoloft for the depression and anxiety and I didn't last longer than 3 days. Felt it made it worse. Just recently tried Buspar same thing. So I stopped that after 3 days too... I really don't know what to do.. I've been at this since July of last year.

Watch your food ladies, and try vitamins and minerals supplements!! I'm doing very good with those. Hope it helps a little at least, I know how hard it is :(

I am taking Womens vitamins that are from Unikey Health site. Also take St. John's Wort for depression and Passion flower for Anxiety. I seem to have mostly bad days. Feel like I'm going to lose my mind and feel scared most of the time. I didn't want to go on an real depression medicine so I'm taking natural stuff. Also take Melatonin at night to help sleep. I just started vitamins in January and the other stuff this week so hopefully something helps.

Menopause is tough. I agree with you some days are good and other others can be better. It is great to have support from others that have experienced and are going through the same thing. I believe that staying on birth control has been a good thing for me. The mood swings are not as bad. I hope it will get better I cry a lot which I do not enjoy although they say crying is good for you.I wish you the best of luck and prayers that will help you get through this issue that can last for quite a long time depending how you deal with it.

I couldn't take hormones because of my cancer history but Borage helped the hot flashes and Elavil 20mg. helped the insomnia. I call it "mental pause". You will make it to the other side and be a stronger, more empowered person. Prayers, Isabelle19545

Hi there;

Yes I too thought I was loosing control, Very scary. I had no idea that menopause for some of us is a rocky road. I am taking 100 mg of Prometrium nightly and still have horrible night sweats. I was now given Clamara Patch 3.75 mg change every 7-days. Hoping this knocks it out! I can relate to your post. Last yr I was having panic attacks when this first started and was given a rx for celexa. WHich made them worse. I stopped taking it. But I am hopeful that the patch will work.... I pray for you that your good days are coming around more and more. Hopefully the Effexor will kick in soon!! Just know that this will pass and that there is promise...

Please know you'll get through it. It is part of our female make up. I'm post meno for 5 years. It gets much better
