Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

I have gone 4 months without a period now you think at 55 I would already be through this nightmare thing called menopause but still haven't gone 12 months without one yet. Sharing my heart with you all my husband 5 months ago was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease) :-(
Well he has the very rare aggressive kind and is now on life support and been in hospital now for two months. He was in one hospital and they transferred him to long term hospital due to him still been on life support. The hospital he is in called kindred is very neglectful place and he has already gotten MRSA / Sepsis AS IF ALS wasn't enough due to their unprofessional care of his trachea/vent. Well to make a horrible long story short ALL doctors says he is dying (I just would not accept ALS diagnoses) He can't Talk/Walk/had has lots of paralyzes and has been heavily sedated for months now. It has been so hard to see him suffer the way he has and he still hasn't came back to himself and he is still in hospital and still on life support they can't seem to wean him off. But see his breathing was suppose to be last to go he can still move his legs a little upper body is totally paralyzed . He cannot eat has feeding tube he hasn't eaten anything by mouth in two months nor will he ever eat by mouth again. Doctors says let him go but I JUST CAN'T! Is it my hormones or my deep love for him or both? My home is so sad i see him everywhere . One day he was so strong and healthy and then BANG out of NOWHERE ALS! after me seeing how bad he is suffering I will never complain about menopause again! I am praying he can come home before he dies. We want him home but he will have to come home on life support if they can't wean him off. What if they are wrong? What if one day he gets better? i can't pull plug on him to me thats God's decision not mine. Doctor wants to meet with family tomorrow (which is only me and my 3 kids still at home) I don't know what to do! I want him to come home to see the sunshine feel the wind on his face. Let us lay beside him, hold him and let the kids spend time again with him. He never even got to take his ALS wheel chair down the ramp at home. WHAT IF THEY ARE WRONG! I been praying for his miracle and I am expecting one at least one part of me is. Of course my mind fights me but my heart is believing all the way. they stopped the propofol thats he's been on for two months but he still seems like he sees us but not himself at all like in a daze or something. He went from 215 pounds to 140 something already! His birthday was 8-8-2012 he was in ICU. I could use a friend if anyone has something to share or encouragement or wisdom my email is c.rosado@insightbb.com My nights and days are filled with tears and restless and I pray a lot for him. I'm still in peri menopause but now that seems like nothing compared to my husband suffering! thanks for allowing me to share my heart and to vent.

So sorry to hear about your husband. No one can make you ready before you are ready to let go. I guess you have to ask yourself if he is really still there. With technology today, we can keep the body going for a long time, even when it shouldn't. I can't tell you what to do, but sometimes, the greatest love is letting someone go. If you are a spiritual person, take some comfort that he would be in a better place. It's good that they are having a meeting with you and your kids. How they feel may have some influence on your decision. I hope you can find some peace in whatever you decide.
