Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.
I just noticed your post--I just got gastritis for the first time 2 months ago and two months before that my endocrinologist said my hormones (or whatever it is that he checks) show I am in beginning menopause. Apparently whatever the markers are show that I have levels high enough to be experiencing hot flashes, but I'm not yet, just severe anxiety that I've had since I was 15) and lovely gastritis and acid reflux! I am taking 300 mgs of Zantac and lots of herbal remedies "prescribed" by a homeopathic nutritionist for gastritis and anxiety. There's a gastritis forum on here you can join that I belong too. Also, I do get the butterflies in my stomach so bad that it feels like my intestines are shaking and then I have diarrhea--that is until I started taking digestive enzymes etc. recently. I hope you feel better. Gastritis is such an aggravation on top of all the other we have to deal with!
GI doctor said he sees it a lot in women our age. He said that when estrogen gets low that it impacts the lining of the stomach, because estrogen helps create the mucus layer of the stomach that protects it from our stomach acid. And if the estrogen is low, the mucus layer is decreased and then our stomach acids are eating into our stomach.
Oh, and that low estrogen or high progesterone can both loosen the lower esophageal sphincter allowing the acids to flow back up the esophagus triggering more problems (asthma like symptoms, palpitations, trouble swallowing, sinus issues)
