Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.
I don't know if hydrating your eyes from the inside would help with the outside of your lids or not. Just use plain tears, no allergy concoctions, allergy stuff will make it worse.
My son gets really red itchy eyelids. we got a prescription called patenol from the allergy doc and it helped a lot.
I never thought that this could be related to menopause, but after reading you guys everythings seems to be getting more brighter. This menopause thing is pretty bad, too many bad things in your body changes (sad). But I'm going to read more on the herb that Gianna7 is referring to, that is a thought.
I do not mind trying the herbs, but it seems like many women have told me of so many different ones, so I don't really know which ones to try!! But as I said before I first when into menopause from my partial hysterctomy that I had a number of years ago, but at that time I just started with slight hot flashes and night sweats, but starting last year all the rest of the symptons came about (WoW)! At that time I didn't relate the depression with the menopause, I thought I was just going crazy or something, not thinking of menopause. Then one day as I was having a Bible study with my teacher, she's a lot older than I am, I told her about the depression that I was having, I was crying all day long. As she listened I told her that I had went to see a doctor about the depression and was given some medication to take for it, but it wasn't working, I was at this time crying for every little thing that happened, my 17 year old daugher was at the point where she was scared to leave me alone. So while we were talking, she said to me, "how old are you?" so I told her (at that time I was 44), so she said, Are you sure you aren't going through menopause??
That came to me as a complete shock, "MENOPAUSE" oh no not me!! So she went home and brought me a book about menopause and told me to read it, ok guess what, I thought that the book was written around me!! And yes, it was true, I was going through menopause. Then I went back to my doctor and told him, and he gave me a good talk to. And that's how I found out I was going through menopause. And yes Ginna7, the symptons are horrible, I wish this would be over with, like NOW. But the question that I have is, When is it over with???
I'm so happy to be here and meet all you young ladies on the site and pray that we can be there to help one another. I never thought that the eye dryness was related to menopause either, but I'm still learning.
Tomorrow I plan to go to the pharmacy to get a cream called "Protoptic" .and I also want to get some Chinese herb called Three Immortals, Modified Er Xian Plus, from a company called Health Concerns that Gianna7 recommends here- thanks Gianna,
I will keep you posted as to how it works.
How are your eyelids lately Momshere?
I'm going to start taking HRT, this will replace the hormone oestrogen which I lost when coming off the pill. The pill contains the hormone oestrogen so I think this is the right thing for me to do, as all my problems seem to have started immediately after coming off the pill 18 months ago.
I did read on a forum that only 16% of menopausal women knew that having dry eyelids is another symptom of the menopause. Also, another article I read stated that this condition really has to be treated or it could lead to an increased risk of infection or visual impairment. I have to say that my eyesight used to give me some concern, but I always put it down to having cream around my eyes.
I hope this will be of some help to you. Don't forget that although this was right for me, it may not necessarily be right for you, so really it's always best to see your doctor.
