Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.
Macafem is the brand name of a product that contains maca root. I dont know what else (if anything) that Macafem contains, but the maca root itself is probably very safe.
Maca has been used as a staple food by the indigenous peoples of the altiplano (high plains) of Peru and Bolivia for hundreds if not thousands of years. It is one of the few crops that thrive under the harsh conditions of these extremely high altitudes, and these people have relied on it for sustenance in the same way that other peoples have relied on wheat, corn, rice, etc. This long history of use is fairly strong evidence that maca is safe.
Maca has long had a reputation for balancing hormone function in both men and women, though I cant say whether this has been backed up my modern science. Ive never used it myself, but there are several women who post in this group that take/have taken maca, and most seem to have had a positive experience. Hopefully some of them will share their stories with you.
But thats the crazy thing about menopause: Were all so different, and what works for some women doesnt seem to help others at all, so you sometimes have to experiment for a while before you find the right fit.
Take care!

Use the macafem, but do everything else you know to keep yourself in the best shape ever. It's all in the balance.
My doctor told me I was not in the change, and then wouldn't listen to me when I had done research of my own. Herbs were put here for mans/womans use. Just need to read up on anything you consider taking to make sure it might not need another herb with it to keep you in balance, or that you may need to eat prior to taking. Just educate yourself on anything.

I will respond in 2 months.
I order from Puritan Pride plus it takes about 6 weeks for an herb to take effect.
I have been using black cohosh 500mg 2xdaily and recently added one evening primrose capsule in the PM. For me the primrose oil reduced my hot flashes more than the black cohosh that was why I added it
