Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.
I am in my 3rd year. 1st few months I thought I was going to die, no sleep, blood pressure spiking, hot flashes similar to yours.
My doctor prescribed me clonidine. Since then hot flashes/night sweats are almost non-existence.
I found changing my diet, sugar intake, no caffeine, restrict alcohol, lots of fresh veggies and fruit, protein and exercise has also helped.
It does get better, good luck.
I'm glad to have read this because people always seem to recommend black cohosh.
I spent over a decade working in a health food store and because of that I am very skeptical of herbal supplements and treatments. I know a lot of people swear by them, but it got to the point where people were trusting a minimum wage kid with NO nutritional, medical, or health or biology background of any kind - they would trust that person's advice to take whatver herbal supplement for whatever ails them instead of their own doctor's advice. I heard so many people talk crap about their doctor's, and yet they would ask a retail employee what they should take.
The vitamin and supplements industry makes a killing off of people who don't want to trust their doctor's, and instead are looking for some miracle herb to fix them.
Anyway - sorry to go off on that rant... but I think you gals mean black cohosh? I've never heard of anything called black cohort. ??
Dardi, thank you. I'm curious about clonidine. I will ask. I am already on blood pressure Meds. So, perhaps this would replace that. Fingers crossed. I'm pretty decent about my caffeine and diet - I DO need to cut back on sugar, though. I exercise regularly which does help my sanity at the very least. And, I drown myself in water. Ha. Thanks for the light at the end of the tunnel!
