Menopause Support Group
Menopause is the physiological cessation of menstrual cycles associated with advancing age. It normally occurs in women between the ages of 45 and 55, when the body begins to slow and stop the production of eggs, estrogen and progesterone production decreases, and menstruation diminishes, eventually stopping altogether.

hi, I started having hot flashes 9 months after I was into menopause, these are so severe that I have sweat rolling off me day and night. The Dr told me to start blk cohosh and I started it this past Dec 540 mg the bottle says take 1 daily, fast forward almost 5 months later it's still just as bad if not worse. I wake up all night feeling like I'm about to burst into flames. I have also just started taking ground flaxseed meal along with it with not relief . I'm wonderin how many mg's of cohosh everyone else is taking or if I should start taking 1 pill twice a day. I just know i have to get some sleep It's making me crazy.

Hi, I tried blk cohosh and had a severe reaction to it, spike in blood pressure, sent me to the hospital. My doctor has put me on Clonidine 0.1mg. Half tablet morning and night for the last 3 years. It has considerably reduced/eliminated my hot flashes and night sweats. This medication lowers the blood flow. They use to prescribe for high blood pressure, talk to your doc. Changed my life. Also, good diet (reduce sugar, salt and alcohol and exercise). Hopes this helps "HUGS"

Thank you so much, so for (day 2) of increase on blk cohosh and no problems (knock on wood) I can't get in to see the doctor till the 1st of June but will talk with her about medicine your suggesting.

Sorry your hot flashes are so bad, guess mine are mild compared to yours. I have tried several herbal remedies including black cohosh but most of them had side effects I did not like, like dizziness, irreg. heart beat etc etc. Lately I drink apple cider vinegar for the hot flashes, specially before bedtime it has helped me, you might want to try it, but I know yours are a lot worse than mine. Take care. Peace and Love.

I've been using gensing and only 1 tablet a day for almost a year. It helped the mood swings but I still have hot flashes. The really bad ones are coming less now. It was pretty bad for a while. I was on estrogen patches for about 10 years and lost my doctor who prescribed them.

My mom is going through this too. It really sucks. She drinks a lot of ice cold water. It is unfortunate that medications and herbs have horrible side effects.

I tried blk cobash, bad reaction. I am on Paxil for hot flashes and mood swings. No help for the hot flashes. I now take 1000 mg of Evening Primrose Oil nightly. It has taken the severe hot flashes to just warm moments that kicking my feet out from under the cover fixes.
