I was given 5 mg Valium from my ENT although I don't use it everyday when I do use it yes it helps me sleep but I don't have all that drowsiness the next day. I always have something everyday but I save the meds for when its really bad. Don't know if that helps but just sharing a thought hope it helps a little.

I've been taking 2 mg twice a day for about 2 1/2 years now. It definitely helps me, and I don't notice any side effects. But I am aware that after taking it this long, I should never just stop it. If I decide to try going off of it, I'd have to slowly decrease the dosage and wean myself off of it.

I have been taking 2 mg in the morning with a water pill 2 mg at lunch 2 at dinner and 2 mg at bed time it has been a year since I started this and have no had a major attack since. some times I get these little micro burst of dizziness lasting about 5 seconds but that's about it .seems to be under control for now.

Don't take Valium but I take Xanax I've been taking it for a long time and it does help it's one of those things I found that helped the most I don't notice any side effects I take when I'm prescribed and I don't have any tiredness or anything but it does relax me at night so don't be worried about it if it helps take it it's hard to find something that we can get the feel halfway decent be praying for you,hugs Shirley

Thanks everyone for your replies. I feel better, hearing your experiences with valium. And what an interesting idea, to put it under your tongue to ward off an attack quicker. I am definitely going to try that next time but will also use a mint on top of the tongue at the same time. Thanks so much!

I use valium when needed and use a 5mg or even take 2 when severely sick but if I'm dizzy and need to function and stay awake, I take half of a 5. It also helps with the anxiety of this disease and it's side effects aren't bad esp compared to other meds. If you want to try something natural when not too sick you can also try Ginger Root. Those help my nausea and some dizziness! Bonine is a non drowsy form of dramamine aka meclazine. That also helps in place of valium or with in severe attacks.

I've been on Ativan for six months now. Tried Valium but it seemed to make me loopy. I take half a pill in the morning and the other half at night. No side effects. I am aware that I'm dependent on them because if I try to skip a dose I get pretty shakey. Hate that I need them but at this point I will use anything that keeps my head on straight!

I started klonopin about 6 weeks ago, it improve my sleeping and the attacks for about 3 weeks.

I just signed on to this support group, and I hope we can all benefit from from the exchange. I have episodes of vertigo (dizziness, instability), but most doctors attributed them to neck problems. But last week's results from an ENT doctor "certified" that I have an imbalance in the ears, and he prescribed BETAVERT (48 mg per day). I noticed from the BETAVERT information sheet that this medicine was indeed particularly used for Miniere's Disease. The ENT prescribed it for 2 months, but that I should check back with him after 1 month to see how it's working.
I have added occasional Valium (maximum 3 mg per day) to the mixture which helps me sleep better and reduce anxiety from the
illness. Here in Greece, when one hears of vertigo, the first thing people say is 'oh, you must have a neck problem'. These orthopedists here never once suggested that I should consult an ENT to see about any potential ear imbalance.
I'm wondering if anyone on this panel is now taking BETAVERT (betahistine) along with any other medication to reduce vertigo and/or dizziness attacks.

I have been taking 1/2 of 5 mg of valium every night before I go to bed since 2003. I will take a 1/2 of one during the day if I feel anxious. I've been on the same strength for 11 yrs and it does help with nausea associated with vertigo. I've never needed more than that. Occasionally I'll take 5 mg if I've had a rough day. It's not a cure for Meniere's, but it has helped me tremendously to sleep better. No more turning over and having the room spin or that feeling that I'll have to throw up. There will always be times when we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed by dizziness and vertigo. We all have similar "triggers" & some new ones that pop up. I hope that this helps & that you will have more spin free days!
