Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

Ugh I thought I was doing well!

I had endolymphatic sac decompression surgery last Wednesday. I was thrilled with my recovery and that I wasn't 100 percent but I could at least do stuff with the family. Yesterday I woke up and tried to stand up and then I fell. I couldn't balance and was throwing up so much might doctor had my go to the ER to get fluids. Today is the same way. I tried getting up and ended up falling twice and wacked my head and hurt my back. I dont know what's going on. I am just really disheartened because all I'm doing is laying in bed. I put in another call to the doctor and waiting to hear from him. I'm not sure what he will be able to do. The ER gave me valium zofran and fluids and it didn't even help that much.
Has this ever happened to anyone else and if so did anything work?

After my surgery I was very dizzy too, the surgery seemed to make me even more sensitive in the short term to a meniere's attack. I did have several falls following the surgery. I know all this sounds terrable but consider you just had major trama to your head and everthing up and in the middle ear maybe swollen. Pain was an issue for atleast a week and a half requiring medication. I would say just hit the bed and try not to move around too much. About the time the stitches came out it was easier to gage what had happened. About two months post surgery you will know if you have any improvement.

Thank you Rich for your encouragement. I'm hoping I'll start feeling more normal in the next week. I see my doc tomorrow so I'll see what he has to say. I just can't imagine feeling this way permanently and that scares me! I probably just need to be a little more patient!
Oh btw I think you would be a great hospital clergy!

I had my post op appt yesterday and even the doctor was a little perplexed. He said there is a blood clot behind my ear that might be causing some problems. He's hopeful that I iwll improve over the next week or he will schedule me for vestibular rehab. The sad thing is I was doing better last week 2 days post op than 9 days post op. It's just a reminder that it is a rollercoaster ride that is not a sprint. But for now I am supposed to have an adult with me at all times because of falling and can't go outside because of the snow. Fortunately my mom flew out to help out so my husband can go back to work.
Hope everyone else is having better days than I am! Hopefully next week I'll turn a corner and start getting better.

Leslie, I am so glad your mom could come and help. How frustrated you must be feeling. I am sorry. My prayers go with you and your whole family as you slowly heal. Had the same results. My sac was abnormally small and scar tissue along with the shut had to be removed 6 months later. We all experience different things. I pray that you will be feeling better in no time at all. Meanwhile, relax, keep from moving around too much. We're here for you and cheering you on...taking one step at a time by your sided! Hugs!

Thank you guys for your encouragement. It's hard to tell if I'm doing better or not. Well at least I can stand without falling but I feel unstable and vertiginous almost constantly. I am trying to remain positive but everyday it seems to be getting tougher.

Hi Leslie, as everyone is saying..we are all different.
For me, forceing everyday things and face the balance issues head on are better than being lay down all day. I sort of feel its like physio therapy where you have to force the problem areas to get any relief.
I was asked to get up and arrange my transport home the day after my surgery...I was in pieces, lots of pain and barely able to stand but I forced (slowly) my self out of the hos' bed and wobbled to the phone..at home over the next week I forced myself to pop out and stay active and it kind of re - hab's my balance etc. I am now back in work and it feels ok yet if i have a lazy day and lay about doing nothing i feel bad when i need to stand and walk?? Maybe its just me!
