Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
I have been testing the tinnitus xino starky aids my hearing isn't really bad but I have trouble hearing my younger kids. The lady set it up with a tinnitus program. When she did it I was like eh whatever my tinnitus isn't all that bad and dizzy well pretty on and off all the time. I really didn't think it was going to help.... Well my head is clearer I have less duh moments and less banging into things. Not to mention I haven't asked anyone to repeat themselves. If I had to guess my tinnitus that is mainly in lower tones I think I was at the point that I just didn't notice it but it was there because when I take the hearing aids out my head fells full heavy and I even get this full head is a bubble thing. I dunno do I sound crazy???
All of us fellow Meniere's Disease (MD for short) folks that have had this disease for more than a few years would never call anything related to it crazy.
I was diagnosed with MD over 20 years ago. I was in remission more than not for the first 18 years. My Tinnitus and Vertigo, nausea episodes were only a month or two long and then I would go back into remission.
I WAS ONE OF THE (RARE) LUCKY CASES with few big MD problems until about 2 years ago. At the age of 58 and very healthy (working a full time job and pushing hard like a 35 year old) I had my first episode that included very strong vertigo, horrible nausea with lots of vomiting AND my first Drop Attack. I don't' know of too many MD patients that lasted as long as I did with more remission time that illness time. But all that changed 2 years ago.
I am now a very busy 60 year old and have episodes that last a bit longer and are more severe. This past Christmas, just two and a half months ago I stared feeling very poorly. The Tinnitus came on like gang busters in my left ear. On a scale of 1 -10 and ten being the worse. I was and still am having a 9 to 10 range of loud roaring that is maddening to hear. It has been 24/7 non-stop for 9 weeks now.
Three weeks ago the Vertigo was so bad from drop attacks I had to crawl to the bathroom to chuck my cookies. I had to crawl because I was home alone and was sure I was crawling across the ceiling. Which is a very odd sensation in itself.
While it sounds mid evil, I was so happy when my ENT doctor ( a renowned ENT Surgeon in my area) gave me an injection of steroids into my ear drum, that I could have hugged and kissed him. Within 48 hours all the Vertigo had stopped.
That was three weeks ago. While having no Vertigo is great news and allows me to continue my high pressure job of 55+ hours each week, the roaring Tinnitus at the highest level every is still screaming in my left ear as it have been since Christmas.
But I am moving forward by taking it hour by hour and day by day. I have a WONDERFUL wife as my support go to person and she has my family and friends doing the same. If they did not, I would be in a padded room by now wearing a straight jacket (no joke).
I am trying different ways to learn to sleep. It's not going to well, but I am encouraged sleep will come. The strict diet always helps, but does nothing to rid me of Tinnitus. I do not like take any kind of prescription. When I do the side affects drive me bonkers.
Karen I am unable to answer your questions because I just don't know anything about the hearing aids. I was told that in my case not to bother as they will not work.
Well time for me to get some rest. Another busy day planed for tomorrow if I can. I hope you are feeling a little better.
