Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

I got tested yesterday the foil things in your ears and the hammer clicking you are supposed to relax through. Then I had to wear those freaky looking video glasses, get my head twisting and hung upside down for crystal test and then air in my ears first cold then warm..... I didn't tell the guy but he would have been great getting information from people who didn't want to talk. I wasn't dizzy at all except for the air test. Thought I walked away nauseated and with a headache from hell that seemed to get worse as the day went by. I went to bed about 8 never go to bed that early I was totally wiped out. I woke with headache today and I feel off. I am nauseated and now I am worried about the results. My biggest fear ever is for someone to say its all in my head and the tests say so. On a positive note...... I found a light coffee I like lol just don't ask me to give up coffee. So now we wait....

Karen- I had no response in right ear when I did the cold hot test, but when they did the left ear I had severe vertigo they said that meant I had an ear weakness and then sent me for the clicking one. The clicking one is enough to drive you completely nuts. With the other test I to was nausated all day and slept a lot so that's pretty normal. They are probably trying to see if you have the bppv along with your menieres disease. The clicking test pretty much shows which ear is affected by the menieres. If you can I sipped on some caffeine free coke to get me through I have nausea a lot and I try not to take my nausea meds to much because they are so expensive. Hope this helps sorry your feeling off. Try to relax a little today if the kiddos are in school. Let us know of your results when you find out. Sending a prayer your way.

I had vertigo with both and cold in my right ear. I had vertigo with my left ear with cold and only a little bit with hot. That would explain why the guy felt so sorry for me after the test.

Karen- gosh im sorry sounds like you have a lot of vestibular problems especially if both ears reacted to it. That means you have a weakness in both please do let me know what doc says. It's gonna take you a few days to recover. And I know what you mean about them having to have you talk. I remember when the vertigo was severe and shes asking me to name guys names starting with A I don't even think I made it past D it was so bad. Please keep us posted and I hope news you receive isn't to bad :(.

Yes I was asked names of girl starting with A then he would skip around I think I only got one or two out of each.

Have you been to a neurologist yet? They may send you on for more testing if thing are suspect or inconclusive. Do you have any ringing in one or both ears?

If you have not mentioned the ringing to your doctors make sure you do. I have a problem with memory so what I did was make a list of my symptoms and frequency, also commented on how new medication helped or did not help. This gets one organized and lets your doctor speed up the process of testing. It also helps if you ever need to file for disability because you are establishing a treatment flow and follow up. If you have any questions about further treatments they suggest for you, feel free to post a new topic on this site. Most everyone here has been through it all and it may help give you some comfort to know what is coming up next.

When I had my balance tests in Jan. nothing they did made me dizzy but I was a bit nauseated and disoriented afterwards. I thought I had failed the tests which didn't make sense because I was having dizzy spells 2-3 times a week. What I found out from the doctor was that not have any reaction was a reaction. It proved that my inner ears are non-functioning. I have Meniere's and since my inner ears are not functioning, I have to retrain my balance system. He also put me on a diuretic which he says works best for Meniere's and together they seem to be helping.
