Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
After recently having my 2nd steroid injections in my left ear and still having bouts of Vertigo, my ENT wrote an Rx for Betahistine. I found a compound pharmacy that could make it and started taking it today. I know about the possible side affects, decided it is worth the risk. Especially if it will help with vertigo and the roaring tinnitus.
If anyone that has taken or is taking Betahistine could answer a few questions for me?
How much time passed before felt an improvement?
I am taking 1 pill three times a day. Did you need to increase to 2 pills three times a day?
Did it help reduce vertigo and tinnitus? Or just vertigo?
How long have you been taking it?
Any concern for interaction with other drugs?
Thanks in advance for any info you can share. I have had MD for over 20 years. The last three years have been bumpy. The last six months have been real bad. Missing more time from work. Unfortunately I have one of those bosses that doesn't comprehend what MD is or how we deal with it day to day. I printed out a one page description on MD and gave it to him. He is a very intelligent guy, but this just baffled him. Compassion is not one of his strengths. Needless to say this can add a bit of stress to the work scenario.

Jojo - I think it is about $1.25 or so, per pill without insurance. See what your ENT says about it helping you. I heard the treatment for MD with migranes may be different. Hope your days improve.
