Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

sodium diet

Being on low sodium diet ,i try to stick to 1200 mg, has any one got there blood tested and keep watch on it to make sure it does not go to low, it should be between 135 and 143, mine stay around 135 or 137 ,it scares me it may go to low,if you have had your tested what is it, it can be serious if it gets to low so we have to watch it. I stick to it maybe to much my doctor said to go up to 1500. i never eat out ,i cook all my food and count it all day. tell me how you stay on your diets and were you try to keep it. It helps keep my vertigo at bay, but now with this fullness in my ear when it gets to bad it can give me a attack. So let me know how your doing, thanks Squarley

Squarley, I had blood work done about 2 years ago, and my sodium level then was 140. I don't not count through out the day my sodium.
I just don't add it to food that I make, I let my family do their thing when food is done. I still go out every Sunday with my family to eat. I just ask
them not to add salt to my meal. The one thing I do due is I don't eat
food that cause inflammation. This seems to work much better for me. Even though I may be off balance every now and then, and maybe have 4 drop attacks
throughout the year, I don't have the 6 hr. vertigo attacks anymore.

I've never had my sodium checked that I know, so if I have -- it's normal. I use as little of processed food as possible. If you eat an all naturual diet, it would still be rare for you to go below the 2.000 limit that alot of doc's want people at. After all, if you look at a glass of milk, it is 125 mg per 8 oz and a woman our age should have at least 8 glasses to prevent bone loss. If you are worried, there is a book called "the complete book of Food Counts. It has almost everything you need for a healthy diet and there are always updates so you are getting current info. So if you are concerned about your sodium being low, talk to your doctor about your diet and ALL medical conditions. It is rare to have a low amount, but if it makes your mind at ease, make an appt to talk to your GP.

AND I forgot to mention poultry -- especially chicken. If you don't get an all natural, non-processed kind, each serving of chicken can have up to 700 mg of sodium in it due to the salt in the processing. So always check the label. Most of them now have it written pretty big that it's all natural, but just ask someone in the meat dept to help you find an all natural brand if you have problems.

I like everyone else cook almost all my food as well. No processed if I can avoid it completly, what I did not know was that fresh chiken had salt already in it! I use nothing but herbs to cook, and if I can grow them myself then why not! I also try to go out to eat and anyone who takes me know it has to be a place where I can ask for food without salt. You would be surprised how ready most place are to accomidate you. And as far as sweets, I have almost completly cut them out, I will pick two days out of the week to allow myself a small portion, such as two cookies with decaff coffee. It's all worth the wait.
