your probably still having problems because you are not taking the dose prescribed by your DR I take .5 mg Xanax at night before bed no problems .5mg is not a large dose my pills are so small it would be next to impossible to break in half. The Xanax will not knock you out only calm down your anxiety so you can fall asleep .I know this is a lot to deal with I am anxious all the time worrying about when and if the next attack is going to come .I had to retire from my beloved trade as a Union Ironworker after 30 years I went from earning 75 to 80k a year to a job I hate making 30 k a year but my bills didn't change but at least I can manage this job and be safe but it dos cause me a lot of stress and sleepless nights worrying about paying the bills I am only 55 and not ready for the rocking chair yet but choices are limited once this hideous ailment gets a hold of you .I wish you all the best and good health keep on trying and you'll find what works for you.

This is kind of a hard thing to do but if you are a believer the bible says do not worry about tomorrow for it will take care of itself. Worrying will not control what will happen but I have found getting upset can actually bring on an attack so I deliberately avoid as much stress and conflict as I can. If someone tries to draw me into their stress I "just say no" Attacks suck so bad I really don't want to give one to myself by getting stressed out. Find something you enjoy on tv or read or what ever you like, shut out the world and protect yourself. The people around you will understand.
Having a good medication can also do wonders too.

My friend who has horrible insomnia swears by lavendar oil. I have found writing my fears and frustrations down in a journal before going to bed helps clear my head. I hope things work out!

I agree with Leslie, I journal my feelings and symptoms everyday I think it helps to cope. I also have this app on my phone it has brown noise on it among other sounds to choose from when the ringing or anxiety gets to be to much I put this on and it helps me to relax.

Ollie I tried a little experimenting with marijuana the results were not good increased pressure in my ears highly intensified the ringing in my ears and made me very tense and paranoid .smoked a lot of this stuff in my younger days 30 years ago and never experienced anything like this .Try it if you wish it may yield different results for you but for me it was a no go !

Hi Ollie, know just how you feel. I have work related anxiety sometimes and would take the .5 mg with out hesitation to get a good nights sleep. I need a couple more years of working before I can retire too.
Matter of fact doc gave me a prescription for .5 Xanax yesterday and I will not hesitate to use it if I need it. Really, the .5 is such a small dose . I'm usually that way with meds too, want to take the smallest amount .
Can't imagine 29 years on the factory floor. I should consider myself lucky that I have a desk job...and here I was feeling sorry for myself for having to keep working.
A friend of mine takes Valerian root and it swears by it. I tried it and it doesn't do a thing for me.

thank you Littlemac for your support. Fortunately! i only have to take half of .5 mg xanax on my work night to deal with a sleepless anxiety. My primary doctor only prescribe 30 pills per visit. i tried very hard not to take any oills as long as i can.
