Meniere's Disease Support Group

Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

I'm wondering if any of you find your MD symptoms worse in the summer?
I am into my third year and it seems July is a bad month.

Mine seem to have gotten worse over the winter, going to have to keep an eye on that...

For the first time since, having MD I started the year out with no drop attacks. In the last 6 months they have come back with a vengeance! I probably have 8 drop attacks any many days of unrelenting vertigo. I think most of my problem is allergy related. I refuse to take allergy shots because I almost died from a reaction about 10 years ago while on treatment, it caused permanent nerve damage in my right lung diaphragm (I am probably the only one earth this has ever happened to). During the summer I really suffer, I hide inside with my two doggies and keep it cool. I come out of my cave for evening walks with the babies and mama keeps me alive by taking us on short trips or out to diner. Whatever gives us peace.

Definatey this summer and spring has made me so much worse , the hotter or humid the day the worse I feel . @Rich I had a horrible reaction to allergy shots like 10 years ago too and WOUND NEVER get them again lol

Hi curlergirl. My symptoms are strongly tied to seasonal allergies. Here in Tucson we have one of the longest blooming seasons, and two different ones, in the whole country. Staying cooped up in the house just when the weather gets beautiful here is the hardest part of Meniere's that I cope with. I literally don't leave the house unless I absolutely have to. I realize July is not typically a big pollen month, depending on where you live. So your issue may be different than mine.

I'll just add that I have found, believe it or not, wearing a mask helps. But it has to be a special one rated to filter out the smallest particles. I had some on hand (I had to order them on line) because I used to do pottery and with the silica in the glazes I sometimes needed to wear one. I don't remember the rating on it, but if you're interested look on-line for an industrial rated mask that says it filters silica, etc. It will have a small cage-like plastic box on the front.

I hate wearing it, but when it comes down to risking an attack or being a little uncomfortable and looking funny, I'll take the later any day!

Summer is not a good season for me.. I hate summer and love winter
