Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

Hi All,
I seem to have a combonation of the rocking and swaying with the rare bout of vertigo. Does anyone else have the predominant symptoms of rocking and swaying? I do have a decrease in hearing in the affected ear with tinnitius in both ears. Thanks to all.

Oh yes. I'm sure at some point someone will call CPS or the police and tell them I am often intoxicated with my kids. Lol It's really not funny but that's what it looks like.

All I can add is that I often have people look at me funny when I say "the boat moved", (when I am on dry land) my other favorate saying is "Fall forward!" I guess that means if you cant move your life in a positive direction, the best diretion then would be forward if you cant walk then falling will have to do. It really is tounge and cheek humor about discribing a drop attack and I would probably hurt myself less if I fell forward. My last three drop attacks have been all backwords and not pretty eather. I worry each time I smack my head on the ground, knocked out cold once.

Correct me if I am wrong! but if you are rocking and swaying.... isn't that vertigo?

Yes, I have the swaying sensation and it's the same feeling when you are rocking or swaying on a boat. It's like the waves are rocking the boat...or in this case, the ground underneath your feet.

To me vertigo is used as a general term by many people so yes the rocking and swaying could be looked at as vertigo.

I have Mal de Embarkment syndrome in addition to MD. Never been on a boat in the ocean either. That's what's so weird. You're not alone. Many of us have multiple symptoms and can relate to each other's journey through each day. This site has been a real blessing to me! Hope that you'll be feeling better to. PS: I hug a pillow and that helps. My husband knows when it's bad because I actually do rock myself front to back. Figure I'll just go with the flow, and surprisingly it does help sometimes.
