Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
Hi All: I am now entering my 5th year with a balance disorder. After 5 specialist am no closer to finding any answers. The last specialist told me my balance problem was, "psychological". I told him if it was psychological I would of been able to work on that and fix the problem. I told him my fear of falling is real and it is a reaction to the poor balance but the root cause is NOT psychological. He only saw me twice, did not do a proper history to include me in the history taking, He asked me to keep a diary of my symptoms over the summer but didn't even ask me about it or look at it. So disheartening. My own research found me reading about the vestibulocochlear nerve that controls balance located in the head. It talked about damage to this nerve and I match 5 out of the 7 symptoms. I am linking the symptoms to autoimmune functioning. I have an autoimmune skin disease and may have one in my mouth as well. I am really really thinking it is the immune system that is affecting the nerve that controls my balance. Anyone else experience this?
Please, oh please, find a doctor who will take the time to listen to you instead of judge you. The last thing anyone with MD needs is to have someone with a degree behind their name say that it is psychological! Oh for a minute in your shoes! Don't give up. Try again. Print off your information. Find a new MD and see what happens. Don't give up.
