Yes. Pain like someone is poking a sharp pencil inside my ear. Sometimes it is sharp enough for an "ow" but usually it is bearable. Sometimes I notice a damp feeling inside my ear after the pain subsides. This is not constant. No comments from my doctor though.

I had this pain up to three times a month. I describe it as someone sticking a knitting needle into my ear into my head. I often will grab my head and say "ouch" out loud! I asked my ENT about this and he said that it was a strain or spasm in the muscle in the jaw. Something, somehow has it aggravated. It is a deep where the jaw connects to the skull, this gives a sensation that it is from the inner ear. This is fairly common in most folks it might indicate something else in a smaller number of patients.

I have pain a lot and it is exactly like a pencil being poked in your ear. It is bad on bad days and often when it starts to let up I get the sensation of my ear draining. That's when I know that partincular episode is almost over. My pain is there and stays there it doesn't come and go but it is the same side I have most of my scoliosis complications.

I want make sure that I am not belittling the point of having his kind of head pain. In my case that is what the doctor told me and I agree with him because the pain is now less often. On the other hand, it would be a great tragedy if someone had an infection in the ear and did not seek treatment because they excepted my explanation. An infection in its worse case could lead to deafness and possibly even encephalitis. If your symptoms are constant and or sever ask your doctor to look into it further. Remember, they work for you and push them if you have to.

I do get pain sometimes, and it sometimes improves if I use Afrin to open my sinuses - they all interact in there.

Thanks all for your responses. It is a sharp pain and just on occasion for a day or two. Why is it docs tell us all the time what our symptoms can and can't be, and yet we with the diseases know otherwise. I have a mild case of ulcerative colitis, and dairy aggravates it. Every person I speak with who has UC tells me they can't tolerate dairy. And yet my doc and the info I've researched on line all say dairy is not a problem for UC. Go figure!

You are right. I forgot my ENT said pain should not be a part of MD but I know better. It was one of the things that got confused with me for so long because it is on the scoliosis side I thought it was because of the twisted muscles and tendons in my neck.

I have a dull pain whenever my ear is having a lot of pressure. It's just random and often associated with the weather. It usually lasts just a few minutes at a time.
