Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

I'm 41 and I have Ehler's-Danlos syndrome and a host of anxiety disorders. My eldest sister (50), was diagnosed with Meniere's two years ago.
Last Friday at around 4 pm I was awakened by an attack of vertigo that lasted about a minute. I had never had one before, so I panicked thinking I was dying from a heart attack. I told my husband to call an ambulance, but he managed to calm me down. After the attack was over I was very shaky and tired for the rest of the day. I now have moderate pain in the right ear, and need to constantly pop both ears because pressure builds up. Also I have been hearing a roaring sound on and off since then.
As a background, I've had tinnitus for many years, but it has never bothered me. I've had the roaring sound on and off too, especially after getting off the buss or train. My nose has been congested for many years now, I suspect from an undiagnosed allergy. I've had a mild sore throat for weeks now, and I also clench my jaw very hard due to the extreme anxiety I'm always under.
My question is: could this be the start of Meniere's, given my sister's diagnosis? Am I reading too much into my symptoms? Your answers will be deeply appreciated.

It's hard to say if you have Meniere's from just one very short vertigo episode. When I have vertigo it lasts for hours and returns several times a week. I think since you have had a sore throat for so long it could easily have another cause. It would be a good make an appointment with your doctor and let me check you over. I wish you well.
I will see my GP this week and ask for a referral to an ENT specializing in balance disorders, and pull4youd suggested. Thank you both so much for taking the time to reply :)
