This group is extremely helpful and welcome! Meniere's is highly individual...some with hearing loss, some not...some with ringing in ears some not. Most have a fluid build up in the ear, I do not. Some have luck with SERC, some do not. Some of us have episodes of vertigo and throwing up more than once a month, some of us can go a couple of months between. There are surgeries that have been suggested, and I have a friend who had one successfully...something to do with removal of a balancing nerve...she is deaf in that ear now but never had any other symptoms of Meniere's since for 15 yrs. There have been suggestions of injections of Gentamycin into middle ear which negates the sense of balance. I am still collecting information so I have questions for my ENT specialist...although many of them try to tell you it's something you have to live with. Yours is not unusual with hormonal changes due to pregnancy and is commonly written about. Hang in there and keep reading these posts and collecting information. We cannot sit back and have doctors tell us to live with it by reducing salt intake(and taking a diuretic...which in my case makes no sense since I have no fluid in the ear according to the CAT Scan and I've had an MRI as well), caffeine, reducing stress although this definitely helps. One thing I'd add to SueHutch's thoughts is to ensure that you are getting the best medical help available for this dreadful disease. My experience is that there are a good number of otherwise competent ENT's that simply don't have the expertise to really help. Ask the questions. Get second, third and fourth opinions. There are treatment options available that don't involve sacrificing your hearing in the effected ear. Best of luck and stay strong!

My ear surgeon has me on a diuretic and potassium supplement daily - I haven't had an episode since.

I also have been diagnosed with meniers since 2004. for the last 10 years I would have vertigo attacks, I would get a strange feeling like a head rush and then my heart would start to race, I would break out in a cold and clammy sweat and my balance was terrible.
This was my warning sign that I was about to have a full blown vertigo attack and had about 5 minutes to get to a safe place, because I knew that the room was going to start spinning and with in 15 minutes I would be so sick and all I could do was lay down if I was home or if at work (nursing) go into an bathroom and be deathly sick as im vomiting and the room is spinning around me, I become incoherent and am also hearing impaired and would have to ring the bell for someone to come in to help me. when it first started at work the boss was ok the first time and the nurses stayed with me till my husband would come and pick me up from work.

that was until I had 2 attacks in 1 week at work after the 2nd attack started I told the nurse I am about the have another vertigo attack so they were prepaired this time. hubby wasn't available to get me from work and my boss had to drive me home himself with the h.r. from my work place. nothing like vomiting in the back seat of your bosses car.
long story short, I was refered to a university hospital who deals with vestibular (balance) meniers and dizziness. It was there that they discovered after a slew of tests , vng, rotory chair, coloric test that my vestibular nerve isn't working, they said that I was experiencing something called M.A.V.=migraine associated vertigo


instead of a migraine I would have a vertigo attack. I had to file for S.S.D.I. since I was told I could no longer work nor drive anymore due to having meniers, vestibular nerve damage and M.A.V. so sadly I had to give up my career and was awarded Social sercurity disability with in 4 months since all the documents backed up my disability.

Check with your ent when you see them and ask about migraine associated vertigo . I hope you will get the right help it took me 10 yrs before I was diagnosed with the correct ailment. M.A.V.

You are the 3rd person I've read a post from on this site that had Mnire's come on just after a pregnancy. That is what happened to me as well. I think that may be more than a coincidence...

Ask about Vestibular Rehab. I was diagnosed about 7 years ago and thankfully my symptoms are now manageable. I often had to ride home with a coworker while vomiting in the back seat. Now I rarely have vertigo, and when it comes it only lasts about 15 seconds. I am dizzy most days but that sure beats the whirling vertigo. The rehab therapy has been helpful. Hang in there.
