Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
Since I am new to this....
Just talked to a retired teacher who had Meniere's since 1994 and after taking SERC (betahistine dihydrochloride) for 6 yrs. she stopped (during summer break in 2000) and has had no further symptoms or complications of MD. She had to have her ENT specialist contact an MD in Canada in order to get a prescription and then be able to obtain it from a pharmacy in Canada (about $15 a month at that time).
I have been reading that several women in this group are taking this and I am interested in knowing what success they are having and where they get the medication...as well as are there side effects, what contraindications, etc.I understand the FDA approval expired, so it is unavailable in the U.S.A.
This may be a better answer than surgery or injections???? Anyone have
suggestions or information that would be useful to me.

SERC is the most widely used Menieres drug outside the United States it is heavily prescribed in Europe. You can get it made at a compounding pharmacy in the U.S. (apx $40 monthly) as long as a doctor writes a prescription. Our FDA has failed to approve the drug because of lack of results however a vast part of the world disagrees.
