Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

Hi Everyone~
Today I had a little procedure. My Dr inserted a micro-wick into my ear. It will stay there for a month. Three times a day I will put the dexamethasone into my ear after a month the tube is removed. Dr Silverstein is hoping to relieve some of my Meniers symptoms with this. It's worth a try I've lost most of my hearing have fullness and tinnitus all the time and of course I have the bouts of vertigo. He wants me to undergo allergy testing as well so I will be doing that too. I'll let you all know my progress.

if anyone wants to know it was done by a laser. They gave me an alevert in the office and then they numbed the area with a local (that stung a bit), after I was numb they inserted a hole with the laser and inserted the tube and wick. I didn't feel a thing and I watched it on the computer screen. The numbing has worn off now and it's a very mild pain. I haven't taken anything for it either. So far very doable!!

Thank you for sharing this. I find it very interesting. I had steroid drops put in my affected ear (I already had a hole in my eardrum, so he could just put the drops right in through a tube). Now I'm wondering what he used, if it was the dexamethasone you received, which seems to be much stronger than some other corticosteroids. I'm going to check into that. I got no relief from mine. Keep us posted on the results!

Very interesting. I've had the dexamethasone injections and the gentamicin also, but definitely not three times a day! I sincerely hope this works for you. Please keep us posted.

Dexamethasone is the injections I got in my ear as well, and, (knock on wood) it seems to be working for me. He also put some kind of antibiotic in mine as well. Praying this works for you!

I have been having the dexamethasone drops pnce per month and it has not worked. I have to wear an ear plug in that ear every day because the tube lets in cold air and mkes me dizzy. I am told I would need to go under a general anestetic to have the tube removed but they didn't tell me that when they put it in. Glad you are having positive results.

Thank you for your comments. Your treatment is a little different than what we are use to hearing about. Please keep us up to date on how you do. I had some poping and some vertigo when I had dex injections which makes sense, the hole in the ear releases preasure and the dex added fluid to the inner ear. This was normal for my proceedure.

Day 1- I was a little dizzy today but not as bad as a Meniers attack. I will keep you all posted.

Day 2~ The "fullness" in my ear is gone. I still have the tinnitus. It actually is a little louder because the fluid in my ear isn't there to buffer the sound. I feel good no dizziness.

I am getting the micro-wick procedure done this month with Dr. Silverstein and was wondering how you are doing after a year of the procedure. I am deaf on my left ear from childhood and my hearing has always been 100%.
I was diagnosed with MD 5 years ago, and have been on Betahistine and diazide since. I would go in remission for 8-9 months, but now I have developed severe Tinnitus and doesn't seem to get any better. The only good thing is I have no vertigo, and am concerned that the procedure might trigger something I don't have.
Please let me know your experience.

I had the Micro-wick procedure done and can say that the pressure and fullness is gone, but the tinnitus is very loud and unbearable. I am on my fourth day and find no relief from the tinnitus. I am deaf on my left ear and have always had very good hearing in my right until I developed Menieres 5 years ago. Luckily I do not suffer from Vertigo but the doctor said eventually i will. I put dexametasone drops 3 times a day for a month. After the treatment they remove the tube. I find that every time I put the drops, my tinnitus gets very bad and I go partially deaf on my right ear. I become frustrated and depressed. I am hoping that this is just part of the process.

I will keep everyone posted on the progress.
