Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
It's been over a week now that I can not get into a car, simply because the movement of the car makes me extremly dizzy. I have never had this happen before. I don't normally drive when i am feeling this bad so have had to rely on rides. But now I can not even do that. I am suppose to have physical therepy this week and don't know how I am going to get there. Any advice?

I would have a family member drive me and take a bag in case you need to cough up. By the way on facebook there is someone that I keep in touch with on and off and she had the same problem day in and day out.. Apparently she had her inner ear window repaired so that it would stop leaking fluid into the middle ear. Unfortunately there is no way of knowing until they go in there and look for it. How long is the drive to the physical therapy? How about taking your valium before going and see how that works.

I do have a pinwhole in both my eardrums, I have had them for years, but doctors have told me that they are so small that they should not affect me in anyway. The physical therapist is about a 20 minute drive through city streets. Which means I would have to go through busy streets and stop lights and so on, and no I would defenetly not be driving. As for valium, I am afraid but will defenetly try, I have some;; I guess I just dont want to feel all floaty or worse not to mention adicted to it. I have come off so many medications and have gone through the withdrawls and its a horrible feeling. My doctor called in some prednisone today so that will be my nesxt thing to try. Well the ear drum is different from the inner ear window that I was talking about. If you have some time look up the inner ear window and you will see what I am talking about. If that window is open or so to say broken it causes vertigo like symptoms through out the day. Problem is that you will need surgery to find it from my knowledge. I would ask your doctor about it and see what he thinks. Because to be bi lateral for years on years does not mean you walk around dizzy but you may walk around with an imbalance- way different symptoms. And if you go that far in doing surgery you might as well have them to the decompression and shunt together since they will be in there already. And yes GOD is great and you have to remember that we are all going through this because GOD loves us.

I to was going to suggest xanx it does not make me sleepy at a low dose it takes away that dizzy feeling,just small dose .25. It should get you there if some one drives you just look straight a head and do not turn your head you should make it,good luck,hugs Shirley

Do you take meclizine? that is what my doctor gave me for dizziness. Although it really hasn't helped me. I get really dizzy in the car as well. it has gotten gradually worse though over the last 6months or so. I try to avoid the car if possible. Did you try closing your eyes or wearing one of those face masks for headaches in the car? that might help.

My heart goes out to u. I know how u feel. Noone else understands but if I am lightheaded or dizzy I don't get where I have to be. There been times when I have had to cancelled thngs more than once. Hope and pray it be over at least long enough ffor me to get where I need to go. Good luck to u
