Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

Hello,
I am currently under the care of an ENT who believes I have Meniere's Disease. I have had attacks of vertigo since July 2013, which last anywhere from 20 minutes to 15 days. I've had drop attacks at work where I became so dizzy I had to be helped to a chair and my husband had to come get me. My job involves a lot of travel and I've had attacks while driving on the highway, where again my husband had to come get me. Flying became absolutely horrible for me, and seemed to bring on the bad bouts of vertigo which usually lasted around 4-5 days and once lasted 15 days.
I've been prescribed Serc but I am unable to take it as it aggravates my IBS and gives me diarrhea, along with making me vomit. I have an extremely sensitive stomach and have a hard time with most medications. The anxiety/distress I get over having an attack of vertigo alone is enough to trigger my IBS and I usually end up having diarrhea along with experiencing the room spinning and vomiting severely.
I'm already on a clean eating diet where I have a very low sodium and sugar intake, very low intake of acidy foods such as tomato, pineapple etc, no citrus fruits, I completely avoid caffeine, alcohol, red meat, dairy, any artificial weird stuff, MSG as this is a huge trigger for stomach issues for me..
I try very hard to maintain a regular sleep cycle, and get adequate exercise as well. I'm out of ideas as far as anything else I can do to better the situation.
Currently I am on restricted duties at work, where I am not allowed to travel. This cuts out about 50% of my work, so I am only working every other day. Dealing with my work has been an issue of it's own as well as they don't seem to understand my issues and I suspect they don't believe me. Aside from physically not feeling well, I feel guilt over the work I am missing and about how I am being a pain in the ass to my boss. I absolutely love my job and am not willing to look for another job as I don't feel I should be forced out of something I love by a disease I cannot control.
Any advice as far as coping with Meniere's and IBS-D, as well as dealing with work would be greatly appreciated. :)

I used to have IBS too but the ent gave me an RX for a diuretic on the first visit. and oddly the IBS went away. I had it for many years and chocolate would make it far worse. You didn't mention a diuretic so you might want to ask your DR. about it. He immediately thought I might have Meniere's and I noticed that the feeling of fullness in my ears went away as I was taking the pills. Take one every other day and have continued to do so for 8 months. I actually had not noticed the fullness in my ears until it started to leave. Just sort of snuck up on me and became used to it. I also have hearing aids which now have to be readjusted every 3 months as the Meniere's changes the hearing levels. so far no true dizziness but feel light-headed at times.
