Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

MD in pregnancy

Has anyone with MD had attacks during pregnancy? How did you handle MD through the course of the pregnancy?

I am five months pregnant and have suffered from moderate-severe attacks of MD every day for the last 5 months. Before my pregnancy I would only have attacks 3-4 times a month, but now I am so tired of dealing with this all the time. People keep telling me "Oh, your morning sickness should be over by now!" and I just want to say"IT ISNT GOING TO GO AWAY-I AM GOING TO BE SICK THE REST OF THE PREGNANCY!" No one seems to understand what it is like. MY doctors have said there is pretty much no safe treatment currently and we just have to wait it out. They said I will most likely continue this way through the course of the pregnancy and possibly while breastfeeding!?

Please le me know if anyone else has been through this.

Hi there,
would love to hear an update from you. Were you ever concerned about your MD getting worse from pregnancy before you got pregnant? Were you told the risks in advance and chose to still get pregnant?
My husband is so worried that if I do get pregnant I will suffer so immensely and even after the delivery I may place myself and the baby at risk if I am not well, never mind the sleep deprivation that is expected for the first several months post natal.
Any words of wisdom appreciated.

Hey, thanks for asking!! Yes, I was pretty sure I may have more trouble with my MD through the course of a pregnancy. My doctor had said there were three things that could happen. 1) it would get better 2) it would get worse 3) it would stay the same. I figured 2/3 of those weren't so bad ;) plus my husband and I really want to have several children and I decided it was a risk/sacrifice I was willing to make. My husband and I were both worried about my health, but as Christians we chose to give that worry to God, and trust in his protection. It wasn't an easy thing to do. I was sick through the majority of my pregnancy, but I gave birth to a healthy baby girl at the begining of April. She is the light of my world and worth the sacrifice. I have chosen to braastfeed as well, and so I still have a considerable amount of trouble with my MD due to not being able to take most meds, however with support from my husband we are making it through. When I'm having bad days I make sure not to carry my daughter around too far, and I usually don't drive anywhere too far on my own. But in my opinion, you have to sacrifice many things as a parent anyway, so why not a little more on my part? It is difficult, but worth it to us. I pray that you will have peace when making this difficult choice. Feel free to ask anything else I didn't cover! Blessings!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that my ENT predicted I may have a reprieve from my symptoms for awhile after I gave birth, and I did in fact have about 2.5 months where my MD was a lot better. The other thing you mentioned was the lack of sleep. I think that may be one reason why mine Is worse lately. I have been working 12 hour nightshifts 3X a week but then still care for my daughter during the day. I have not been getting the sleep I need and I truly believe that makes it alot worse...I'm actually going to quit my job, partly because my MD and partly to be able to do more for my family...
