Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
When I was diagnosed with Meniere's I lived in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I moved to Leadville, Colorado because the altitude (10,150 feet high) and lack of allergens (not much grows at that altitude) made me feel better. I became hypoxic and had to go on oxygen, so my husband and I moved to Denver, Colorado.
Now I suffer severe allergies and the unstable barometric pressure is wreaking havoc with my Meniere's. Also, being down a mile in altitude causes my ears and head to feel much fuller and heavier - its scientific...
So, my husband and I are going to try one of the one places on Earth with the steadiest barometric pressure fluctuations, Santiago, Chile. I won't be there until Chile's summer (our winter) - around October - but I am praying to get some relief from this horrible disease.
I'lll keep you guys abreast of how it goes. I leave in August for Cuenca, Ecuador then we will go to Chile. I know many people think this is extreme, but I think a vestibular nerve section is extreme...

I live in the OKC area (the cottonwoods are in full "glory" right now) and I wish you the very best of luck and I agree with you, vestibular section is extreme! To me, moving makes more sense if one is able to do so.
Also, doctors around the world have different approaches to this disease - you may find a good one there who has a different/better regimen for fighting this too.
Your husband sounds incredibly supportive. Hope it all goes how you want it to. I know it will be a while yet, but please keep us updated on how it goes for you.
