Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

Anybody linked a weak immune system to their balance problems?

not from my balance problem but from the anxiety and stress for my well being. Also try to work 13 hours stress full job in a Semi Conductor manufacture with a MD.

Hi Curlergirl, Sorry I can't help with that question. Over the years I've given up trying to find a reason for the disease I have. I just know I need help with my symptoms and try any new suggestions that come along. An understanding ENT is very important. Hope someone else can help you.

While my MD diagnosis is not final, my Neurologist is pretty sure. I do have an autoimmune problem -- Lynch's Syndrome MSH2, which is both hereditary and genetic. I've had all kinds of interesting, odd diseases because of the mutation that causes other genes to go awry in replication.

I also have had 11 major surgeries in 14 years, 2 small strokes, a benign meningioma (brain tumor), 3 heart blockages and a stent, chemo radiation & multiple cancer surgeries, including removing the large intestine. All are related specifically to the MSH2 gene.

I did some research and do not find vertigo/brown outs (feeling like passing out) on the site. I also do not have tinnitus, or hearing loss that either my husband, my friends or I have noticed.

Just the dreadful 24/7 dizzy -- like bed spins.

I've always had a weak immune system, so I'm not sure if it's affected by the Meniere's or not. I'm also not sure when I technically started being affected the Meniere's either as I have had issues with severe motion sickness my entire life and lots of problems with my ears as a kid. By the time I was 22 I had pneumonia twice, and countless bouts of ear infections, strep throat, broncial infections. It would take me twice as long to fight off a cold or flu than it took my brothers. My theory was that I never built up an immune system because my mom was a germaphobe who disinfected everything but perhaps the Meniere's played into it, too. Who knows.
