Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
I feel your pain, the same thing is happening to me. I watch very carefully what I eat, I don't eat processed foods, sugar, low sodium,
I basically eat a lot of salads. But this last week it seems every other day I am battling this. I can't move my head from left to right or up and down. Which makes it a little hard when I am watching my 2 year old granddaughter. I have had this for 5 years my first 3 years seemed to be the worst. Then had one really good year and thought I had it figured out. But year has not been very good. Unfortunately I don't think any one thing helps with this disease. It seems to be trial and error. Hang in there, my heart goes out to you.
I am sorry you are struggling like this. I know this week has not been a good one for me either. One of the things I have learned about this disease is that it progresses differently for each of us, but it does progress. There is not a cure, which is the major bummer, there is only various ways of trying to manage the symptoms.
Given the area where you live, you are not far from the tropical storm the gulf is getting, so it is possible that you are having a worse time right now because of that. I know big storm systems really knock me for a loop.
One of the things that sometimes helps me when I am feeling sick to my stomach is peppermint candy, especially the soft melt away kind. That helps settle things. I used to drink ginger ale, but now one of my migraine medicines makes all carbonated beverages taste nasty.
If your Dr is out of town, does he not have someone covering on-call? If things become unbearable, I would say you need to go to the ER. My Dr had them give me IV Valium to relax me along with Zofran for nausea. That really helped me when I was in a real bad state. You might also be dehydrated, and that won't help either.
Hang in there friend and know you aren't alone.
