Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

hearing and peoples attitudes, cost of hearing aid

Hi,, I was diagnosed with Meniere's. My hearing has gotten worse but what really angers me is peoples attitude. I also have a form of muscular dystrophy which makes climbing stairs diffictult. I was out with someone yesterday and we came across an up esculator that was not working. I started to ask about finding an elevator but she when right onto the esculator. I got up it but strugged. I also have this with my hearig. Peole either get angry because i am not listining or they get upset that Ihaven't been to an audiologist. I know I need to go but honestly, don't know how I going to pay 5000 for possilby two hearing aids. I will be retiring soon and that is a lot of money. Any suggestions.

If you are going to retire soon then I would not waste your time or money on these items but do consider you will be socializing more once you retire and may need one in your ears.

I have the same issue as you. Because I am 25 my co-workers don't believe me or they make fun of me. I'm losing a drastic amount of hearing in my left ear and I can't tell you how many times I've asked them to speak up. They either get angry if I don't hear them or when I ask them to repeat something they cup their hands around their ears and laugh. I work with some of the most insensitive people ever. However, I know that they cant understand MD and never will. and because they are just ignorant they don't realize how they act affects me and as hard as it is....I do try to ignore them. If they get mad....they get mad. My advice would to try to explain to those you care about and just to ignore the ones that get mad. As far as hearing aid I myself am looking into that. Good luck :)

First, if the person you were with knows you have ms, I'm going to generously give her the benefit of the doubt (because I can be quite blunt) and just say that maybe she forgot but you can't go up the stairs so you're going to find an elevator. Sometimes others have stuff on their mind and forget. But my honest answer is I would have said something like see you later since you know I can't go up them and walk away. I know it's not everyones responsibility to remember my conditions, but other times, like when people ask if I want to go a boat ride, I just look at them like they are crazy.

As for the hearing aid, ask if they are going to pay for it if you go to an audiologist now because you doubt you can afford it this year and you'll have to have the test at the time you get it. My dad had to try 3 different ones before he found one that works. Medicare paid for his, so that is something to look into after you retire.
