Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

Have you tried water pills?

So my ENT doctor gave me this again to see if it would help. It's apo-triazide 50 25 mg this time. It was Furosemide last time. What I felt was I went to bathroom a lot but the claimed effect of less ear fullness / vertigo / dizziness didn't come as expected. I have been in low salt diet. What is your experience about taking water pills? Did they help you to some extent?

I've been taking Triamterene 37.5mg/HCTZ 25mg tablets and haven't noticed that it helps me.

Hi there...the ENT Doctor also gave me a prescription for water pills...but then he said to me that they are known for lowering blood pressure and that because my B.P is good then the tablets could make mine start to go too low....he said I could start to feel faint and have even more dizziness and balance problems....so in the end I wasn't brave enough to try them.
I mean,why on earth would I want to give my self more problems...this monster that lives in our ears is bad enough anyway,I have vertigo and balance problems 24/7 so I just honestly don't know what to do anymore

I take HCTZ too, but it doesn't work for me either and I walk a very fine line between having too much fluid and getting dehydrated.

Being dehydrated makes me feel like poo almost as much as having too much fluid does.

Trying to find that happy medium is almost impossible and I don't feel like the HCTZ really helps at all. I'll take the dosage on really bad days, but otherwise I just watch my sodium and potassium intakes and monitor how much fluid I drink.

I take straight Pamabrom (Diurex) which is an OTC med. I have low blood pressure and SVT (rapid heartbeat), and it does not affect my BP nor alter my heart rate - it has no caffeine. The only contraindications are allergic-type reactions in a few individuals. It's the most benign and least intrusive diuretic I found. It definitely reduces the plugged ear sensation for me, but everyone responds differently. Do be careful and have your electrolytes checked taking any diuretic; I have low Potassium, and take a weak supplement to be safe.
