Meniere's Disease Support Group

Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

I have had a really rough week and have had to go back to bed with my meds for five days of the last seven. Although my husband knows that there is really nothing else I can do, he gets so upset when I get sick. Not angry, just upset---tells me to try another ENT or another neurologist. I know he means well, but it's upsetting to me. I try to hide my illness, but it's had to hide disappearing for3-5 hours!

Give your husband a hug and thank him for being there for you. Thank him for giving you the time to get back on your feet. Let him know you feel bad that he is feeling bad. Let him know that any stress you have only makes your MD worse.
And listen to him.

Have him read all of our comments and replies! Things don't change much. I know where I live I need a better ENT group, and I have been recommended to go to the HouseEar Clinic in LA where they specialize in Meniere's and other problems assoc. with the ear. There are surgeons there as well...not here where I am. There ARE ENT groups that can offer more than most. My ENT group here in Fresno actually told me about the House Ear Clinic. This "disease" is very frustrating and scary when you don't know if you can walk out of the house without a dizzy spell. I take 50 mg. Meclizine and .5 mg.Xanax if I need to go out and run errands and that combination usually wards off any serious episode. I'm sorry you are feeling home bound. You are not alone!

I am sorry that you are going through this right now. I asked my husband if he would come to all my dr appt with me so he can be in on the conversation and ask questions.

I was healthy when my husband n I got married and my fear was that I was working, bringing in a paycheck and now 20somthing yrs later I am dealing with meniers. He is retired. When the dr told me I could no longer work and would have to file for S.S.D.I. this is where I lost it.
I cryed in the car when we left and he pulled over and asked me what is wrong? I cryed out to him that I was health and working and now I am sick and cant work. He promised me he would be there for me in my time of need and yes he get upset with me when we have plans and then I take a vertigo attack, but he knows its not my fault.

Hang in there your hubby is just trying to comfort you and wants you to get better!!
ps. got the S.S.D.I due to meniers, so now I tell myself every time I get sick at least I get paid for it!!
