I am in your same boat! I had the surgery in January 2013. I did really well for a long time but I am noticing my vertigo returning on a more regular basis. I have heard the surgery is not always permanent :(

lesliehawley I see from another post you and I see the same doc. Small world. I see Doc G this month and I will let you know how it goes. I also see my dentist tomorrow and am going to have him check the TMJ. Thanks for the reply.

I actually saw him today to get a steroid injection in my bad ear. My surgery was done in Rhode Island by Dr. Duff not Dr. Greene. I'm in no rush to go and have more surgery - I am sure you understand that! I go back and see him Dec 4th for a follow up and hopefully with be a lot better then!

Hope your appt goes well - I do like Dr. Greene although I have only seen him a couple of times.

OMG was that the really long needle and then you sit still for 30 minutes with gauze in your mouth. I too had that before the surgery... So sorry. I will see him the day before Thanksgiving and will let you know. Take care and be well.

I had my first attack of full vertigo yesterday. Thanks God it only lasted 20 minutes or so and minor upchucking. But then I slept for 5 hours. Today I am worried it will return but I know I have to stop that. Dr. G thinks I have a secondary balance issue and gave me Rx Clonazepam. Has anyone out there used this med? Feel ok today just worried and trying to take it e-z.

Clonazepam is my drug of choice for vertigo. I was knocked out inittially when I started taking it but now I take it twice a day and I don't get tired at all. It works much better than valium for me. I have an appt with Dr. Greene on the 4th we will see how that goes!!!

Last night just as the Noles won the game, I had a drop attack. V lasted about 30 minutes. Was asleep, as the 3rd quarter was not so good for the Noles. Woke up, hot as heck, and it was 30 outside IN FLORIDA! Threw up for about 30 minutes along with other unmentionable effects. Spinning not too bad. Get the results of my CT scan tomorrow morning. This is the second such "Drop Attack" in one month, got me worried, don't want this to continue. Usually I get a little warning and can chew up a meglazine and warn it off a bit. I guess this surgery did not work for me. Still on the Clonazepam and drinking bottled water. Will up date tomorrow :>(

Saw the doc today nothing on CT scan Thank God. Said my MD is burning itself out, but can't say how fast or how slow. Did not recommend surgery (Thank God again). Said the Clonazepam. is helping the vertigo since it's not so bad. I am so thankful. Said the T will come and go, as we all knew. Gave me a Rx for Zofran. So that's all for now.

Glad to hear the CT scan was normal! I'm off to see Dr. G tomorrow. We will see what he has to say. I sure hope you feel better - glad the Noles won that was one stressful game!!!

I am new to the group and just noticed this thread. I've had MD since 1973. I'm 55 now. I had sac decompression surgery in 1980 which failed within a week. I had shunte surgery a couple of years later. I don't really know if the shunt was successful or if I simply went into remission because I had had it for so long but the vertigo improved for about 25 years ...no major attacks... then suddenly began again with a vengeance. During the remission period my hearing completely burned out and I continued to have tinnitus and all the other fun stuff that comes with md. When the attacks began again they were worse than ever. Right now I'm ,recovering from a laby done 8 weeks ago. If the sac decompression doesn't work, you may want to research the shunt. Can't say with certainty that it worked but really can't say that it didn't either. Good luck!

Jeanann how is your recovery coming along? My hearing isn't that bad so I'm looking at VNS. I'm certainly not taking it lightly. Today will be my 3rd of 4th consultation regarding it. My husband is a Navy pilot and is gone a lot and we have 4 kids. I really need to find a way to function and raise them the way I always wanted to. They are becoming the most empathetic children and especially my older kids help out a ton when I am sick. I just want to be able to get up in the morning and take care of them instead of my oldest daughter making breakfast because I'm so dizzy. I'm 39 and also had endolymphatic surgery last year and it was successful for about 6 months. Now I'm back to near daily minor attacks and 2 drop attacks this month. I was really depressed during Nov and most of Dec now I just want to find a way to start getting better. Best wishes to all!!!

JeanAnn so sorry to hear about what you are going through. I too went into remission for about 10 years or so and it came back with a vengeance. I was 55 at the time. My husband is convinced that "the change" as he calls it is to blame. I wish you all the best and please stay on this site and keep us updated. I know for me this site has helped me a lot. Yesterday marked 8 weeks since my laby surgery. Feeling pretty well. Slow kind of slight dizzy but nothing like an attack. I'm told full recovery can take up to a year for the brain to compensate completely for loss of the nerves in the bad ear. Just going to be patient. Seems like those of us who suffer with MD are nothing if not patient. Unfortunately I never found a med that worked for me, so when an attack hit, I was at its mercy till it was over. Then slept for hours and hours. Just couldn't waste any more of my life on it. I've never heard of VNS. I hope it works for you. Please keep us posted. Best wishes to you. Jean Ann
