Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
Interestingly enough, as I have researched migraines more, migraines can also cause many of the symptoms of MD - except for the hearing loss. So the hearing loss is my main indicator of doing if I am having purely MD episode or a migraine that has triggered vertigo symptoms. Because I have lost almost all hearing in my right ear, the only way I know if it is that ear that is triggering an MD episode is the tinnitus gets really loud.
Having bilateral MD with chronic migraines is a real challenge - so it is one day at a time, and sometimes it is one moment at at time. Either way, God is with me, sustaining me, giving me the strength and courage I need to follow this path - even if I do have to walk it with a walker and walk like I'm drunk - I'm walking, and I'm living life and not letting this disease define who I am, or control my choices.
Blessings of strength and courage to all
Squarley, I just went to an ear only specialist yesterday after dealing with an ENT clinic for 9 years and getting no help as my hearing loss and Meniere's was getting worse & worse. My ent told me my headaches were not related to my menieres. Well, my new specialist told me he thinks i have menieres induced migraines...basically, my migraines are bringing on the meniere's attacks. He thinks there is something very wrong with my right ear ( and my left ear too, but not that advanced yet) and is doing exploratory surgery on me. In essence, he thinks whatever is wrong is causing me severe migraines, which in turn is causing meniere's. He'll know more after the surgery. It's weird though, i didn't trust my ent to even look in my ears, but I was not even phased at the thought of this doctor going through my ear drum to look around.
