Thanks again to those who responded to my recent post "Now What". I did indeed have a drop attack and 2 more within 4 days while still in Florida. With the help of some great folks in the Cape Canaveral Hospital ER, I was able to fly back to Wisconsin on Tuesday. I saw my regular ENT yesterday and he told me Drop Attacks or Crises of Tumarkin occur in only about 30% of Meniere's patients, they occur with no warning, last a very short time, usually less than a minute, you remain fully conscious and they tend to occur in clusters and then stop. In one study I read it said people reported from 1 to 12 events in a year before they quit. This is the most dangerous symptom of Meniere's for obvious reasons. My doctor said this often happens in the end stages of Meniere's though he didn't say "burning out". He did give me a Gentamicin injection and put a tube in my ear to keep the opening in my ear drum larger for the Meniett. He said we will go to more aggressive treatments as needed with the Labryrinthectomy as a last resort.
I also have learned that many if not most doctors know very little about Meniere's. Fortunately, Dr Chow in the ER was willing to contact and confer with my WI doctor.
