Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

Well I finally broke down and bought a cane today. I am fairly unsteady on my feet. I am only 53yrs old so it took me a few months to convince myself to get one. I found that after I got the cane this morning I now have a bit more confidence to get out around. I actually got my dog out in the yard for a few minutes today with the assistance of my new cane. It's a fancy green one and I am going to give him a name too :)

Congratulations on making the big step (there's a pun in there somewhere) and getting a cain. My wife keeps urging me to use the cane we have, but I'm much to stubborn to take her advice. I guess I need to fall down a time or two.
How about "Caindo", or Cando" for the cain's name. You could get really corny and say, "Cain makes me Abel." Sorry about that!

I totally understand! I'm 56 myself and had to start using a cane about two years ago. I don't need it all the time, mostly when it's raining or storming and if I try to go in a store. I fought it for awhile, but I sure am glad to have it when the MD is acting up! It really helps to keep me on my feet. So glad yours is helping you!

I don't do nothing without my cane, if I did I would have to stick my hand out like a guy walking a tight rope. I guess the cane looks more natural and I look less drunk. The big move was the walker. I got two of those, a smaller one for in the house and a big fat mans walker out in the SUV, that is what I use when we go shopping ect. I do not hesitate to use it, it has a fold down seat. My overall concern is to not hurt myself or make some big embarassing scene in public. I view the pushing of the walker less of and embarassment. The seat is nice because one big problem is never being able to find a place to sit when you get hit with an attack. A seat is allways just a foot away for me. I love it!!!!!

PS I would call your cane "Candy"...LOL

My cane is "the tripod"

I'm 42, when my wife talked me into using it the cane became my best friend I trust it totally to tell me I'm standing upright. I am still not comfortable in public but I use it anyway. It will really help ya.

Thanks everyone for your cane stories. I think I will name him,
" Freddie" after my favorite golfer Freddie Couples :) Maybe he will halp me get back golfing again. I was thinking a custom made cane that is pink with lots of bling would be fun :)
