Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
I have Menieres in my left ear, and have lost almost all of my hearing. The docs have recommended a surgery where they implant a bone activated hearing aid behind the bad ear, it's similar to a cochlear implant. Have any of you had this surgery? If so, was it successful? Do you still hear the ringing sound?

I just got my bone anchored hearing aide, I LOVE IT and do NOT regret the decision one bit!
The first surgery, the Labrynthectomy is the worst, your balance will be off, but the vertigo is gone. I underwent my Labrynthectomy (left side just like you) in February of this year.
Then when I went in for my follow up he suggested my BAHA (bone anchored hearing aide) That surgery was out patient. I had headaches for the first couple weeks but eventually they went away, I had to go back 3months later (after the abundment heals) to get fitted and get my hearing aide.
I LOVE it! I really really do. Its weird, its sounds like someone turned all the bass down, but I can at least hear on that side.
As far as the whirring, unfortunately I still have that. It has subsided ALOT! I have had no bouts of vertigo really since then. I'm still a little off kilter due to the Labrynthectomy and I probably will be for a long long time. But it is worth it to not have to be spinning all the time!
I can drive and lead a normal life, and showing them the "screw in my head" is a great party trick! haha
