Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.

Accupuncture

I'm wondering if anyone has tried accupuncture, and if so, what kind of results did you have? I had my first appointment with one today. He is highly regarded in our community and I do feel a level of confidence in him. Besides the accupuncture treatments, he has also given me an anti-inflammatory herbal supplement. I've always been leery of herbal supplements, as they are not regulated, usually unstudied, and can have side effects or interactions with medications. However, I have 3 inflammatory responses going on in my body right now: Meniere's, ulcerative colitis, and allergies. I also know that inflammation contributes to heart disease, among other problems. So I think I will give it a try. He has also encouraged me to go vegan. It's been a long process of changing my diet over the last 6 years, and I've already eliminated so many things, that I think I might actually be ready for that step. If someone had suggested that to me 2 or 3 years ago, I would have said no way. And I don't know that I will go all the way to strict vegan, although I will eliminate dairy and eggs as well as meat. So, we'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted.

By the way, if anyone else is interested in switching to vegetarian or vegan diet, I liked his suggestion. Don't try to do it cold turkey (no pun intended!). Start with 50/50 of meat and plant based diet, then increase to 80/20 plant and meat, and then, if it feels okay to you, proceed to 90/10 or 100% plant based diet. Hope that's helpful.

I have a friend with MD who tried acupuncture. He said that while he was doing the treatments it improved the feeling of pressure, fog, and the tinnitus. But he stopped because of the expense and the symptoms returned like they were before.
If you are going to try the vegan diet you might find Joel Fuhrman's book very interesting. It is called Super Immunity. I just finished reading it from the library. He also has information online. I am definitely going to eat more greens after reading his book, even though I'm not ready to be a vegan.

I have had more success with accupuncture than anything else. My fibromyalgia pain is much less so I don't even need OTC pain killers except at night. I am sleeping better which helps the fibromyalgia and the ADD and since my sleep has improved my MD symptoms are much less intense. They are not gone they just don't put me to bed and stop my activity. My guy is American but he is a Chinese medicine DR. I would gladly give my money to him over a pharmacy because his treatments work. I hope you have as good luck. I do understand that I will have to keep going indefinately but I hate taking meds that don't work. I am going to spend money anyway so I would rather give it to him.
