I too started with prednisone when first diagnosed 3 years ago. My symptoms were mild compared to now, only hearing loss and dizziness with some tinnitus but no spinning. Once I found an ENT very familiar with Meniere's, he said that prednisone used to be a common treatment. As symptoms worsen and oral meds don't help, it is now more common to use dexamethasone injections in the affected ear through the ear drum. This way, only the problem area is treated and side effects are less. I did not get tinnitus after injections. Both prednisone and dexamethasone are steroids.

Did that type of injection helped u?

Yes. I was symptom free for 2-3 months after an injection. I had it 3 times. I decided to try a Meniett device before going to gentamicin, the next more aggressive treatment. I thought the Meniett was working until I had 3 drop attacks in 6 days last week. I had my first gentamicin injection on Thursday and so far I feel good. Gentamicin is an antibiotic, not a steroid. I think as you taper off the prednisone, your side effects should diminish. Hope you feel better soon.

I am having a bad attack now

I hope it is short lived and you feel better soon. It just sucks feeling sick sometimes!

Now at 1: 17 pm my ears is loudly ringing and full. Feel some what sick but not as bad as last night.

Do your doctors have you on valium or Xanax yet? In other words something to help you with calming the vestibular function? About Prednisone, this is being given to you right now as a first line check to see if your condition may or may not be immunity based. People who have compromised immune systems often get some positive results from prednisone. The down side of the drug is that it dose effect many folks in a psychological way, I was on it for over two years and it caused increased hunger, fits of rage and memory loss, I felt like I was going nuts just real agitated all the time. The ringing is tinnitus and may or may not be related to the drug.

Let your doctor know how this is working for you, do not go off of it cold turkey, you must titrate off of it gradually or you can mess yourself up.

I already have ringing all the time so don't know if that would be a side effect but when I am on it I have hot flashes, severe diarreah and feel very nervous it's not always the best drug. It didn't even help with the fluid in my ear so I won't through that for nothing but I think everyone is different and it affects them in different ways. Hope this helps a little and hope you feel better.

Thanks. I had ringing before but not this loud. and yes am on Valium which does not fully help. I was meclinze and that did not work. Prednison makes me feel wired and no i did not stop it. It was only for two weeks. Two long week. I just do not know why the ringing got louder. Oh I understand. My body felt like it was falling apart on the day after the last dose. It was a night mare. and going from two pills to one I got really sick (dizzy etc). it was just horrible being on it. It makes me want to stop all or not do any more treatment cause what does work?
