Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
I think the best advice I have gotten from this for forum from several folks is to find a way to keep on living and try as much as you can to forget the condition. I know this is next to impossable in reality but once you decide to just try to go on with things it seems to be somewhat better. I think one condition that holds hands with meniere's would be various kinds of mental illnesses, in particular depression. It is quite a steep request to be asked to try to live somewhat normal now and not get distroyed or overtaken by depression. I say, seek help if you need to talk but better than that, try to have several close friends whom you can explain your condition to and then make arangements to go out with these people from time to time. I do not go anywhere without supervision yet I have some routines now that put me in the real world, outside of that I just live one day at a time.
Allways praying for you Leslie!!!

There was definitely a "dark time" when I couldn't even stand to be around myself because as we all know how awful we feel physically with this illness. And I thought if I couldn't stand to be around myself then imagine how my family and friends must feel to be around me. This illness was not only controlling me but also them it was like an octopus with tentacles for each and every person that I came in contact with by my behavior. And the very thought of that hurt my heart. I would never intentionally want to hurt someone else especially those we love. And it's bad enough for me to have this illness yet alone for it to impact them. How awful!
So I began to think about what did I have within my control that needed immediate attention and that was - my thoughts; my thoughts then contributed to my behavior and my behavior contributed to my attitude. I began to make positive lifestyle changes with what was in my control with something that seemed so much bigger than me I needed to replace every negative bad thought with a good hopeful thought. And every time I became aware of talking about my illness or saying something negative to or about someone because of MY pain to my family and friends I stopped immediately and tried to talk about them instead. Love them - No more selfishness. It was like eating an elephant one bite at a time - and eventually I noticed family started to want to spend with me again. And bad behaviors seemed to disappear. It was not so hard to struggle to get by; life seemed enjoyable again even though I still did and still do "feel" not so good physically daily. I'm not saying this was easy or that the change happened overnight but eventually it did happen. Sorry this is so long and I hope it helps someone. What's in a person's heart comes out their mouth! God Bless!
Leslie, my prayers are continuing for your strength and peace of mind.
Sleep well.
Wishing you all a wonderful week!!!
Leslie
