Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
My advice: seek out an Otlogist (they are further educated in ear diseases than ENT.
I wish you the best; sure know how you feel!
So the only thing I take on a real regular basis is zophran for the nausea - and even that I try not to take too often because of side effects. When I get the real bad vertigo, which can sometimes trigger a pseudo-seizure, then I will take a Valium so I can relax and sleep it off.
I also try drinking some good ginger or licorish root tea. Extra vitamin b-complex and alfalfa tablets can also help. Alfalfa tablets are a natural diuretic and also can help with allergies and a whole host of things. I am finding that the more chemicals from medications I put in my body, the more problems pop up. So I am in a process of trying to decrease my meds (working with my doctors) and using Shaklee supplements. I'm starting to see a difference, but have a long way to go.
Praying for you.
It's interesting to hear others are not taking it. I thought that was the norm. I also never knew taking it all the time will prevent it from working later. I am thinking about canning my ENT anyway. He doesn't offer any help and my hearing is getting worst but nothing is offered in how to save it besides just waiting and seeing, lots of hearing test, low salt diet, taking a stronger diuretic & meclizine and valium to cover it up. What are others being told to do or doing to save their hearing?
To MichiganMike...I take a claretin everyday..Take care!
I had about 2 years (2003-2005) of constant tinnitus, right ear fullness & earache, episodic veritgo/spinning room/ drop attacks - then it 'just went away'. . I thought I was 'cured' because I quit working with new fabric treated with a formaldehyde preservative. Then it returned a couple of months ago. Could it be the brand newly -opened college I attend 10 hours per week? (I know that new Countertops & new carpet padding have formaldehyde out-gassing from them for awhile.) Since I had moved in the interim, I went to a new ENT and was re-diagnosed with MD. I read that steroids need to be taken immediately after each vertigo attack to avoid more hearing loss. My hearing is fine - and I wasn't treated with steroids before, but I noted that my new ENT did prescribe steroids for a week (a type of Prednisone). I also take Meclizine as needed, and dr wants me on a low-salt diet.
Vertigo doesn't, go away and position doesn't matter when it attacks.... accord to my doctors.
