Meniere's Disease Support Group
Meniere's disease is a balance disorder of the inner ear. The symptoms of Meniere's are variable; not all sufferers experience the same symptoms. However, "classic Meniere's" is considered to comprise the following four symptoms: Periodic episodes of rotary vertigo, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of fullness or pressure in one or both ears.
I have tried the antivert, and valium. not to much sucess on both drugs. I have never been to the ER room for MD, or seeked medical helpduring an eposide. I have a regular MD checkup in January with a specialist that is 80 miles away. Last time I saw him the MD had progressed, and he said we (me) are going to just have to let it run its course, that it would burn itself out. So has anyone had their MD burn out?
When I was reading about it. Burn itself out was refering to your hearing. Total loss. I don't know what else they could mean. You'll always have it. Not everybody looses there hearing. I'm hoping we don't loose all of it.
Maybe your ENT was talking about that time period where you "adjust" to your new life style (low sodium, less stress, caffeine, etc.). That 3 month period of time where hopefully your symptoms lessen, or you learn to live better with what you have..... I am curious about people like John of Ohio who claim that they are now symptom free... Does that mean the pressure, dizziness, tinnitus... or .... does it mean they have no more vertigo?
Mild attack, lessen your expectations for the day. Drink lots of water. Go to bed early. Major attack, take the day off. Go to bed now... Easy to say, but that's not the way it played out when I had more responsibilities.
As soon as the vertigo stops, no matter how dizzy I am, I go for a walk around the block (very slowly sometimes so I don't fall). Somehow walking helps my brain recover from the episode faster than just sitting does. But that's only after the vertigo stops.
Minor attacks I take my Valium
I never go to ER unless I have fallen from a drop attack and have reason to believe I have suffered a concussion or broke something. ERs dont save anyone, its the China man with a dull spoon.
