I live in New Zealand ( go down to Australia and turn right) and it is summer here at Xmas time. Most of the early settlers from 1830 on were British, and many of us grew up hearing the old people referring to Ireland, England or Scotland as the Old Country and Home. So there is a strong British influence on the culture. Many of us still cook a roast dinner, often with lamb and mint sauce with new potatoes and peas out of the garden, with mint sauce from the mint bed. We have a pre-ccoked Xmas pudding - my Mum used to boil ours for 3 hours but not me. For dessert we also have trifle, pavlova and ice-cream, with strawberries out of the garden. We'll drink beer with the meal, later on a cup of tea. The younger generation often shrugs off the old conventions and have a barbeque, or even lemonade and tomato sandwiches at the beach.
There are contemporary Xmas cards available depicting accurately a NZ Xmas scene, but the usual pictures of snow, sleds and holly are very popular. It takes a long time to change a tradition.

The disturbed child...

I was in an abusive relationship for 17 years it's the only relationship I've ever even been in so what I thought of as love im now finding out wasn't love at all and that sucks my dad says things like I just need to let it go and it's insulting frankly. I let it go for 17 years just because I'm no longer being abused doesn't mean the pain and anger are gone. I refuse to let it go when I was...
Now as I look out the window the snow is falling and sticking to the trees...it is an absolutely beautiful morning.
the rest is the same. church christmas eve and something to eat. christmas day either for sport or rest or if you are catholic church, of course. i also like going to the museam displays for christmas month, beautiful. the real christmas is the fast, which isn't even practiced much anymore. they call it nativity fast in eastern catholic and advent in western catholic. the purity/purifiying thing is the whole point, but in a capitalist country that is celebrating the invention of the mall, they don't do that part.
