Medical Research and Clinical Trials Support Group
This community is for those DailyStrength members that have an interest in medical research, academic research, and clinical trials, as well as professionals conducting health-related trials and research. Unlike other DailyStrength Support Groups, this group welcomes posts (from both academics and professionals) aimed at recruiting participants for trials and research.
I am Rachel Burgess, and I am currently a graduate student obtaining a Master’s in Occupational Therapy at Tennessee Wesleyan University. I am looking for participants for my graduate thesis. My thesis is titled “Social Participation in Young Adults with a TBI.” Participants will be asked a series of questions that will have them reflect on the perceived impact their TBI has had on their social world. Purpose: The purpose of this phenomenological research study will be to discover what areas of social participation are impacted the most in YA with a diagnosis of TBI. This study aims to create a better understanding of the client’s point of view through qualitative interviewing to discover what areas of social participation young adults feel are impacted the most from a TBI to contribute to research as well as client-centered practice.
Eligibility: Participants must be between the ages of 18-36 and sustained a diagnosed TBI in the last 5 years.
Study Process: Interviews will be conducted through virtual formats: synchronous virtual meeting or telephone call, according to participants’ preferred format. Interviews will consist of 25 open ended questions that will have participants reflect on the impact of their TBI. Interviews are expected to take 60-90 minutes.

1. What was the person like before the injury?
2. Is the victim aware they are impaired?
3. How severe was the brain injury?
4. What areas of the brain have been injured?
5. At what age were they injured?
6. Is the victim male of female?
7. Did the injury cause personality changes or did other effects of the brain injury such as cognitive changes and frustration and frustration?
8. Did the victim get adequate care post TBI?
9. What is there economic status. Let's say I was a boxer and I was well off financially. I'd say it was worth becoming punchy for me. If on the other hand I was a math teacher and was no longer able to do my job, I'd be very angry.
10. Then there's the abuse all disabled people who seek voc rehab suffer. It's worse for TBI victims.
I think this survey has to be more specific so you don't end up comparing apples and oranges and I think family members should be interviewed.
You may want to interview veterans with service related TBI to limit some of the variables.
