Do you use the internet to source health information or self-diagnose?



I am PhD student (nursing) from the University of Glasgow, Scotland. I am currently recruiting participants to take part in online interviews. This study looks at internet use for health information on heart symptoms/conditions.


I am loooking for members of the public who have used the internet to search for health information/self-diagnose any type of heart symptoms/conditions/heart failure. You may have searched these symptoms for yourself, a family member/friend or you may be a carer.


All participants need to be over the age of 18 to take part and interviews will be held on Zoom/audio call.


All responses will be anonymous and all data will be confidential. Ethical approval has been sought for this study.


In summary, we are looking for participants who are:


- Over the age of 18.


- Used the internet for self-diagnosis/health information seeking for health failure/disease/symptoms or conditions.

I think that this is a very bad idea because there are a lot of unskilled people on the Internet and there is a lot of misinformation and instead of benefit you will only get harm, you will have serious health problems. There are cases when people acted on advice from the Internet and this only further exacerbated their situation ... For example, many advised me to use kratom in order to get rid of stress and relax the nervous system, but in the end, after testing with tests from https://www.myhealthconfirm.com/product/neurotransmitter-tests/ it turned out that everything is fine with my neurotransmitter levels and I have no problems with the nervous system and these are just the consequences of sleepless nights. So don't take risks and trust the advice from the Internet!
