Medical Mysteries Support Group
This community is dedicated to people who suffer from an illness that has been difficult to define. As advanced as modern medicine is, there still exist many cases where doctors cannot pinpoint an exact cause for pain or other symptoms. Suffering with any illness is certainly difficult, but suffering with an illness that cannot be identified can be especially difficult...
Fast forward to Feb met with my GI pa he scheduled another Endoscopy & Endoscopy ultrasound to verify pancreatitis & check esophagus, gallbladder, stomach & small Intestine. Had the test & outside of some sludge in the gallbladder everything else looked fine no pancreatitis. They did say I had a tortuous esophagus meaning that mine isn't straight it bends this was on 4/17. About a week later I felt like my upper abdomen below the breast bone was being gutted out like a fish. I've had 28 surgeries in 30yrs the last 12 have been since 02 nine if which were major spine surgeries. I called my GI explained what was going on she calls in a Rx that was supposed to help with the spasms, this was no spasm.
For the past four plus years I have been complaining of upper left quadrant abdominal pain with swelling. Being that I'm not a size 2 no one took me seriously. So this Gi refers me to another GI in the group. He walks in I know I'm screwed he looked like he was barely out of diapers lol so he says I understand that you are having trouble with good getting stuck when you try to swallow WTH. I said no I don't have nor have I ever had that problem I'm here for the severe upper abdominal pain. He's says hmmph hold on one minute while I go look at your scans & chart. He then refers me to yet another GI in the group who's supposed to be an expert in the espaphogus. I said that's all fine & dandy but the pain is in my upper stomach, he says esophageal problems can cause abdominal pain. So I show up for yet another endoscopy on 5/8 only they don't know why I'm there since I just had one done. He does the procedure & in 2 1/2 wks time I developed an ulcer near the bottom of my esophagus & also one in my stomach (gastric) he says to come back in 8wks for repeat procedure to check on healing.
In the meantime I'm still having the horrific abdominal pain & a wk ago this past weekend both sat & sun was spiking a temp of 103.6. My temp remained around 100 all wk on fri went to my GP for pre-op physical for endoscopy this Thur. Luckily my Dr only got the crabby me lol he finally says well your temp has me concerned in admitting you to the hospital. He comes back in the room said he spoke to the Dr their ready for me pre-admit is done so I can go right to my room. I get there they don't know why I'm there after an hr I get to a Rm. It's 4pm when the Dr comes in & he has no clue why I'm there. He said they would put me on IV vancomycin for my cellulitis didn't get that until 10pm. Finally mid Sat afternoon I get a new Internist I explain the abdominal pain. This is the first Dr EVER since this began years ago to actually push on my stomach. Each time he did in the upper stomach I jumped he said there's definitely something going on so he orders a CT scan with & without dye contrast for abdominal & pelvic region. On Sun Morning he comes in & said all the tests are negative so he's sending me home. I asked why then did it hurt so much when you pressed on the upper stomach? He said I don't know. So I was admitted & discharged without them having the slightest clue why I was really even there.
I apologize for writing a novel here I just wanted you to understand a tiny bit of what I have gone through. I believe you and understand all to well how horrific the pain is. The only thing I can think of with you is you say this happens when you get really upset it could be that stomach acid is backing up & your not even aware of it. Have you had an Endoscopy with ultrasound? Or a laparoscopy? If not it might not hurt to see if you can at least get the endoscopy. I'm not a Dr but I will say for both of us this has nothing to do with the esophagus even though that can cause abdominal pain. Sending up prayers for healing, comfort & answers. Please keep us posted.
Hugs & God Bless
