Hope everyone is feeling ok & doing well. Been busy here keeping up with the kids and all their holiday activities and getting ready for Christmas. Found out that my parents are coming from the east coast the week between xmas & new years -- really looking forward to having them here. It has been chilly here!! (for CA at least!) -- had a couple of days in the 40s with rain - we actually wondered if it might snow (would be a really big deal here in CA!!)!! Probably sounds crazy to some of you -- but these temps are unusual for or us here. I actually wore gloves today! (that might have been a first! :) I lived in Minnesota only 2 years ago and was used to -10 to -20 below in the winter, but 44 is actually really cold here in CA!!! I read some past posts and saw Dallas' temps -- COLD!! I had to laugh, because the kids were sent a flyer home from school - said we could go to a local farm that serves as a shelter for injured/abandoned animals -- we could pay $20 per person to play in "snow" that is donated by a local ice company!! I had to laugh when I read about Dallas' weather and the fact that we had the opportunity to pay $100 for my family to see ice/snow!! (we passed on the opportunity! :) Anyway, hope you are all doing well. MT -- sounds like you are keeping busy!! Sounds like you have been dealing with a bit more pain lately? Hope it all lets up soon. Your holiday tradition of all the family getting together sounded fun!
Dallas -- gosh - can't believe how cold it gets there. Your Christmas traditions sound really nice -- me too - don't have family here where I am and I am so grateful for faithful friends. Your perogies sound delicious!! My mom used to make them with sauteed onions - I can go for some right now!! I haven't made them for my kids -- I really should.
Cat -- so cool that you had a friend in from NY. I know how much I appreciate it when an old friend is in CA. Sounds like you have alot going on there. Hope you are feeling better and all is ok with all the work & decisions you have going on there. Really cool to read about you & Z! We have had our bichon/poodle for about 4 months now and I love him more every day! Talk about faithful!! He's awesome. I'm sure Z must be he same for you - such loyal friends :).
And hugs to everyone else out there. Stay warm & feel good.
Take good care.....
Marianne
MT, I hear ya on the aching hips... I went off painkillers last night (YAY!) and fell asleep thinking, "Ha! This isn't so bad! I can handle this..." only to wake up at 4:30 AM... holy mother of God! Right hip, right shoulder, left leg (of course!) and-- strangely-- left EAR. I can't sleep on my left ear... what next?! However, about 5:15, I fell asleep again with no meds, and got another hour and a half... I am glad that level of pain doesn't seem to last for me. Was at work by 9:00 and then ran some very important errands.
MT, I am so impressed by the work you are doing. I am starting my reading for class: The Working Poor by David K. Shipler. Fascinating case studies, can't put it down. NO ONE who is working should be destitute in this country-- and it's so great that you are doing something about it! Someday, maybe I will, too.
Help, actually here in the Hollywood hills, I am seeing low temps of 36.8! I mean, am I going to see ice on the pool? It could happen. If the pipes froze, that would really suck.
If you check Weather Underground, I bet you will find it is colder than mid 40s where you are, too.
And yeah-- these little dogs are unbelievable. I cannot believe how much joy and love I've been getting from Z, as well as his tireless patience and diligence teaching me to nap properly. I really can't do it right, but he never gets impatient with me. We've got to upload those pictures at some point... it was cool to see Dallas's critters.
Okay, gotta go... I am late for my napping lesson...
