Root Canal

So, I had my first root canal on Saturday. I have never had anything done to my teeth before other than cleaning and sealents, so I really had no idea what to expect. It wasn't so bad, other than the initial shot of novocaine. However, today my cheek is noticeably swollen and painful. It didn't help that my two year old accidentally whacked me in the jaw. I called to see about a pain killer, but no one has called me back yet, I am hoping they are just calling it in for me. Anyway, they said nothing about antibiotics other than asking me if I was allergic to anything. Should I have automatically been put on one because of the mctd?

I have had several root canals and did not take antibiotics after any of them. There is swelling and some pain after these, but I just took ibuprophen. Good luck.

Hi Kate,
You should be feeling better by now. If not you may need an antibiotic. I have had a couple of root canals and had an nfe tion with one. Hope you are doing better today.

Thanks! Feeling better. Saw him yesterday and he said that I had a pretty bad bruise from the novocaine. He said it's not common, but it happens...so, of course it happened to me. The temp crown was also rubbing on my gum a little and irritating it, so he polished it up some and it is feeling better today!
